You might have heard, there is a podcasting challenge happening this month. It’s called the #NaPodPoMo, National Podcasting Posting Month. A Hivian, @epodcaster, started it 15 years ago. Last year she brought it to the blockchain. 

I heard her talking about it on her Friday morning Twitter Space a couple of months ago and thought hmmm… wonder if that could be something fun for the Dreemers. Yes, if you really hate this month’s challenge, you can blame me. 

We met with @dreemsteem and bounced the idea around for a while and decided that yes, this could be something the Dreemers might have fun giving a try. We remember the trepidation some of you had when Dreem first had you create videos. You tried it and guess what, wasn’t as bad as you thought. 

### It Was Time To Start The Podcast 

Having had a hand in bringing podcasting to DreemPort, I kind of had an obligation to take part. Kind of sounds different than the actual fact that I’ve been thinking about a podcast for sometime. Some people around me like @epodcaster have encouraged me to do one more than once. 

November seemed like a good time to sort of dive in and see if it causes me to run screaming into the ether. 

### Where to Put the Podcast

For the last almost 30 weeks I’ve been publishing a newsletter called “[Nicheless & Loving It](https://nichelessandlovingit.com/subscribe/)” and I’ve created a website for it. Seemed a logical step to call the podcast “[Nicheless Narrative](https://nichelessandlovingit.com/nicheless-narrative-podcast/)”. 

I probably could have just gone to a place like Anchor or Aureal and hosted the podcast there. Since I’m testing out if this is something I’m going to continue, I decided to begin as I mean to continue. That meant putting it on my website and sharing the feed from there. 

### How Its Going 

Once I created the podcast area on my website I took at look at the podcasting plugins available for Wordpress which my site is built on. I selected Super Simple Podcast and installed it. 

Like anything new it took me some fiddling around to get the feel of it and to integrate it into the theme I’m using. 

Next I needed to create a trailer, like a short intro to your podcast. I also wanted to have some music playing on my audio file. I did some searching around for free to use files and was pleasantly surprised to find [Pixabay](
https://pixabay.com/music/search/theme/podcast%20music/) has them available. 

I selected several I liked and stored them away on my computer along with the certificates the musicians supply indicating the music can be freely used without attribution. 

Now to do the recording. I have previously recorded just audio using Audacity which is fully free. I got frustrated trying to quickly learn how to add music and to have the music in the background. I ended up finding Reaper.fm, 

It has a 60 day free trial which gives me lots of time to decide if I want to carry on podcasting. 

I put the trailer up on my website so I had a feed to put into the mega feed. It’s really helped to be part of @alessandrawhite’s daily zoom call for those wanting to do NaPodPoMo and needing a bit of help or even just cheering on. 

### The Feed Issues 

On November 1, I logged into Aureal and connected my podcast so the episodes would publish on the blockchain. The trailer and Episode 1 went up great and I thought I was off to the races. 

Then I discovered there was a problem with the feed. It wasn’t displaying properly. First I went to my host and they tried to resolve the problem. Once they gave up they sent me support for the plugin. 

As I worked back and forth for them I decided that even though it wasn’t displaying, it must actually be working and I went ahead with Episode 2. The feed wasn’t working. I tried a few troubleshooting suggestions from them but seemed to be to no avail. 

Then suddenly hours after I had tried the last suggestion on Thursday, Episode 2 showed up on Aureal but never got into the MegaFeed. I’ll continue to troubleshoot to see what is going on but if I can get the feed to send to Aureal, then it’s active. 

It’s more crucial toward the end of the month with the feed. If I decide I want to carry on past the end of November, I’ll be wanting to submit my feed to other directories and add the Value4Value block.
