Today is really a cold day here. The snow is all around my city, if I watch the mountains from my windows I can se they are really white and a frozen wind blowing. Fortunately my home is warm, I have a cup of hot tea close to me and so I can work on my new oil painting in a very cozy atmosphere ^_^

I started to work on this oil painting on canvas yesterday night (you can see the first steps here) and today I'm adding some details and some touch of colors on the shadows. At the moment I have to wait some hours before to work on the final effects on the background, because the texture that I want to add on this painting needs to have a dry surface.

As you know, I often use my oil colors on paper because is more fast to dry than on canvas, but for this series of painting I need to work on cotton surfaces and so the process is a bit more slowly, but I'm very satisfied by the results.

To paint the dress of Mrs T. (that is inspired by a b/w photo of Diane Arbus), I choose the Pozzuoli Earth red colors with some little white flowers. I love to use this shade of red in my paintings because it's not so brilliant and I think it's perfect for an old "upper class" lady like Mrs. T. ^_^

I think it's always nice to see the "behind the scenes" of an artwork, but I think it's interesting to see the "place" where an artist are working too.

So, I want to share with you a photo of the part of my kitchen/living room where I'm working at this moment. As you can see, I have the tv on my right and the sofa (where my old dog usually sleep) at the left. Back to me (the part that is not in this pic) there is the kitchen and the table where we eat for dinner or lunch.

The door that you can see back to the easel is the door of the lab (a very large room full of creative chaos ^_^)

Well, it's time to cook for dinner!

Stay tuned for the final result and see ya soon!

Silvia
