In recent year, family in western lands changed dramatically.there was a time the parent were in charge and the children follow the leads but not the case anymore. The children take the leads while parents follow their lead.

Observe this imaginary scenerios

- a four years old boy reach out for a toy while at the store with his mother. In an attempt do dissuade him " dont you have enough toys already?. When she realised that she should have ended on quesetion, it was too late. The boy replies; i want it. The boy wihinrs. Thr mom fearing a tantrum,she gives in.
- a 12 years old boy have been reportedly accused of shouting at his teacher. The dad was upset not at his son but at the teacher. "She will always pick on you" said the dad. I must report her to the school management.

Even though this might be imaginary, buy they are not too far from realities happening. The parenta toleratr thr children's rudeness at home and give in to their demands.

Though wr will noy disput the fact that many parenys try hard to teach their children  norms and values not just by example but also giving firm and loving correction  when needed..

How did things get at this point and ehat has happened to discipline?
I am going to highlight one one point todays. In the subsequent time, i will take another point.

**parental authority has weaken**

Some people said that parental authority began to weaken in the 1960's when the so called experts urge parent to be a friend to their kids not as authority figure. Instead of parents striking a balance between commendation and correction, the experts said that reprimanding children would damage their emotion and cause the children to resent their parents later in life.

Not too long, the experts were also herading the virtues of self-esteem. It seems as if the secret to good parenting has been discovered. Which simply state : make your kids feel good about themself. They also told parents to stop using harsh and negetive words on their chidren. But to always tell them that they are special and they can do anything they want.. From the view point, it seems as if feeling good is so important as being good.

The self-esteem movement has done little order than making the "children feel like the world owes them". Making chidren feels like that is doing them tremendous disservice.
