The rains have brought tons of mushrooms on #mushroommonday  Loads of these mushrooms have grown after a couple heavy downpours this week.  There must have been thousands of them. Sadly I do not know what they are...  They have a familiar look of an amanita to them with some brown crackled caps.  Here are a few younger specimens. They seem to start out as a brownish orange when they are pinning then they get a bit more white as they expand.  Their gills are nice and symmetrical and don't attach to the stem and there is a pronounced veil left over from before the cap expanded.  I wasn't able to do a spore print but I suspect they would have a white spore print like many other types of amanitas. Perhaps @tych021 would know what they are as we have many of the same species here in the midwest.  Some of the older versions of them were getting attacked by this fuzzy mold. This must be some kind of toxic cobweb mold that will attack most forms of mushrooms and is the bane of mushroom growers existence if they end up making their grow shed too hot and humid.  I think this might be one of the same mushrooms getting devoured by pill bugs. It seems these mushrooms only last a couple days before getting rotten.  At first glance I thought this might be Tyromyces chioneus aka white cheese polypore.  But as I look at it more closely it doesn't quite have all the features of Tyromyces chioneus. I still haven't found what this might be as there are quite a few polypore species around here. This all seems like new growth though, perhaps these polypores rot away each year and don't last like many others do. That's all for now perhaps I'll be able to find the ID on these guys by next week.
