Mushroom Monday - Some Early Fall Mushrooms
Here are a few early fall finds for this #mushroommonday

They honey mushrooms are out and about in fall. I went out looking for them so I could possibly find shrimp of the woods as that is a parasitic fungi that attacks honey mushrooms making them a choice edible.

But I only found healthy non-parisitized honey mushrooms. This little clump was just pinning.

Here is a broken lactarius mushroom getting devoured by slugs. I didn't want to take a taste test of this to see if it was a peppery lactarius.

Here is the last of the summer oysters. Sadly I found this clump too late beyond their prime.

Its a shame as the whole tree was covered with them. If I had just gotten here a couple days prior this would have resulted in a huge harvest.

One of these days I'm going to get some kind of telescoping saw blade tool to reach mushrooms higher up. The ones growing higher up the tree looked like there were in perfect harvesting condition.

Here are some resin polypores aka Ischnoderma resinosum.

These are quite common in my area. Unfortunately I don't know of any medicinal or culinary use for them. They aren't poisonous and I suspect at this age they would be soft enough to eat, but I doubt there would be any nutritional benefit.

Here is a bit of a UFO that reminds me of a false oyster mushroom other than the little stem it has. False oysters have a fuzzy top and connect directly to the tree without any stem.

They are pretty strange, it looks like they are connected to the tree without a stem but then there is a tiny stem underneath. Maybe its just the angle they have to grow at.

Now for some old summer mushrooms. These twig mushrooms tend to grow when its more hot and humid out. You can tell these guys are dried out from a couple months before.

Here's my thumb for reference in how tiny and delicate these twig mushrooms can be. I believe this one's Latin name is Marasmius capillaris, there is no info on whether or not these are edible because they are too tiny to even attempt eating lol. I suspect they are probably not poisonous but their texture would be the same as eating some kind of tiny root. Maybe one day a scientist will find a useful compound in these guys. For now they are just a fun mushroom to find since they are so tiny.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
