"Let's visit my cousin tomorrow', the hubs said." When?" I asked 7.30 ish was the answer. "Is this a breakfast invitation?" I asked, "Yes, I guess so" my husband muttered. On Tuesday we woke up early took the dogs out, finished our morning chores and drove to the cousin's place. We haven't visited these people in the last couple of years, but we been meeting each other at family gatherings. The hub's cousin's wife wasn't someone you'd take a liking to at the first meeting. Nonetheless, for courtesy's sake I always tried to keep myself cheerful in her company. We drove 15 kms in the morning traffic, since it was a working day the traffic was heavy even at 7am. We reached our destination a little behind schedule. We parked our car a bit further down in the street and walked towards their home with the gifts we brought for them. We noticed that the house was locked, we tried ringing the bell but there was absolute stillness in response. The hubs called his cousin and the conversation didn't seem to go too well. I guessed there was a mix up, the hubs looked embarrassed, apparently we were invited for breakfast next Tuesday and not this one. His cousin on the other end was apologizing profusely. The hubs said that we had other chores to do and it wasn't a problem at all. I decided to look around the neighborhood while this conversation was going on. This place looked idyllic. It was a small place, quiet and beautiful in its own way. It reminded me of the small town where I grew up. We decided to walk around the neighborhood, there were just four lanes there, but each lane was a different color. Do you wonder what I mean by that? I always judge a place by its trees. One lane had jacaranda trees, another had the golden cascade trees, yet another had the golden rod trees, and the fourth had the pink trumpet trees also known as the tabebuia rosea. The tabebuia is done flowering, so there wasn't much happening on that street and so has the jacaranda. Yet that were a couple of late bloomers which sported some flowers. Now, there were more leaves than flowers on the tree as it was late in the year, yet it looked so pretty. Hand in hand we walked the street where the cousins lived, it was filled with the mild scent of the copperpod blooms. It was a sweet smell like that of the honey suckle but very mild. The blooms were high up on the trees but the streets were carpeted with their golden blooms which lay scattered everywhere. These copper pod blooms looked lovely, lying there on the street. It didn't feel like some abandoned or discarded flowers, they just looked like golden nuggets lit up by the sun's rays. As these trees have thick foliage and rise high up into the sky the street was mainly covered in shadows. Yet, there were a few streaks of sun's rays which managed to escape through the leaves and kiss the flowers lying contently on the ground after having completed their mission on the Earth. They seemed ready for their next journey into the bosom of the Earth to fertilize the same trees that sported them. When we passed through the next lane there were the golden cascade trees which were full of buds. In another week this place would be a spectacle of beauty and grace. I hope that we can catch these trees in full bloom like we did last year in another place. This scene was from the small garden there. Zinnias and these yellow beauties lit up that place. We admired the garden for a while before we moved on. We went around the neighborhood a few times and having completed our daily walk we got back into our car and drove to a breakfast place before we went home. Image from last year To be honest I wasn't disappointed, I was rather happy to have gone there this morning. My husband's cousins had moved into this neighborhood just a couple of months back and I was happy to know it was a beautiful place. I wouldn't mind visiting them next week just for another walk around this place, but I guess we may not be able to go there as we would be traveling to another city. Image taken last year It did seem like a silly mistake at first but it turned out to be an enjoyable walk. I only wish that our neighborhood was as calm as this one and as pretty as well. Thanks for walking with me and supporting me. I appreciate your time and effort. Thanks for this lovely community @tattoodjay its always so much fun to post here.
