Hopefully you never need to use this advice but in the unfortunate chance you find yourself bound at the wrists and ankles tossed overboard into the thrashing seas or into a murky swamp; these tips might just keep you afloat figuratively and litteraly.

## Tip 1
Be sure to take a deep breath before your head goes under water. Sounds easier said then done in these circumstances but with some practice it will become second nature.

With full lungs your body will naturally float on the surface for most people, being overweight might hamper this first step.

Remain calm the best you can to at least slow your heart rate to last longer in between breathes.

Then moving like a caterpillar on your back you can slowly, painstakingly move towards land or a safer destination.

If the waves are too big they may/will come over your face try rolling over to create a brief gap of air as you caterpillar your way to safety.

## Tip 2

Depending how deep the water is you might be able to bounce up and down from the bottom to the surface as you move towards safety.

**Exhale as you sink to the bottom then bend your knees and spring up as fast as you can towards the surface.** As your head pops above the water, your already empty lungs will be ready to gasp in as much air as possible before you go back under again exhaling to the bottom to repeat the bouncing steps.

**If there is no clear direction to move toward try to remain in the same place** bobbing up and down. Maybe a passing fisherman or a rescue crew will arrive before its lights out.

In the least these maneuvers could keep you alive a few minutes longer then if you didn't even know how to try.

*(note from Author: Please don't do anything to piss of someone or an organization that would do this to you. That includes but not limited to mafia, drug dealers and pimps, Kim Jung Un's harem, your local and federal governments and of course the weirdo who lives down your street.)*
