**When I first moved to this part of Dalian, China there was a really big worn out shanty town style half outdoor market. Half outdoor because the roof had huge holes as if they had collapsed years ago, no door and the inside felt just like the outside.** https://s4.postimg.org/gdldu1hrh/shanty_to_shop_2.jpg I walk past it every day to get to the bus stop. A year ago for the first couple weeks I would just walk past thinking whatever was inside I wouldn’t buy anyways. **Alas**, my curiosity got hold and I ventured in. I saw a few vendors selling fresh meats other fresh produce. The place was so dilapidated I didn’t venture in far. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos then, I always assumed, I’d get another chance. **Within days of that walk in they closed it down and the vendors were gone.** https://s22.postimg.org/9ys2swq4h/shanty_to_shop_3.jpg This time I decided I should get some photos before it was gone. It’s quite rough looking in these pics taken after it was officially closed. I can’t prove it but if any of you have been to China before, they believe me when I saw, it literally looked the same just a few more people. It was a big project for my little street. I think they have completed the area redevelopment. New streets, pipes, sidewalks and all that jazz. The local market is brand new. Hope my rent doesn’t go up. Haha. The streets are so new they’re a skateboarder’s paradise, ice smooth, no chips or pebbles, people haven’t pissed on it yet. I’m tempted to buy some rollerblades just take advantage; but winter is upon us and I’m already in long johns. I hope it holds up till summer. https://s22.postimg.org/3mewh9q9d/shanty_to_shop_4.jpg Well this is a testament to Chinese ability to make do when times are tough and then make improvements when things can no longer be ignored. I love this market it has everything I need to cook with minus some vital fresh herbs. Dill, I love cooking with fresh dill, I think it’s an incredibly under rated herb. https://s15.postimg.org/dss71n5jv/shanty_to_shop_5.jpg **Veggies? Need some we got them.** https://s21.postimg.org/z7vvho2p3/shanty_to_shop_15.jpg Seafood unending https://s16.postimg.org/c3y7qnwwl/shanty_to_shop_10.jpg Looks like a penis. I hear it;s comparable. https://s14.postimg.org/sibvn84ox/shanty_to_shop_12.jpg **Dalian is a seafood city.** Endless supply seafood. Well, as far as the Chinese consumers are concerned, very little consideration is taken when it comes to where seafood comes from. Hell, when the seas around China run out of fish they can just expand and continue depleting oceans. Who will stop them when so much money is made internationally? I often hear in American or Western news about China not caring about food ocean food resources and how they over fish without realizing China overfishs then sells it to America. EU actually has some laws, not many but some regarding sustainable food sources but a lot ends up there too. Big difference is EU tries ensuring its citizens have freedom to know what’s in their food and when it comes to USA they don’t have that freedom anymore. (Dark Act) https://s21.postimg.org/vsjc1fztz/shanty_to_shop_6.jpg Veggies and fruits fresh anytime I want. Same as anywhere else we have seasonal favourites and the locals always let me know what’s best when I go shopping. Speaking Chinese helps so I can get a cheaper price and ask about the produce before I buy. https://s14.postimg.org/uqz92j5ch/shanty_to_shop_15.jpg **These Shrimp were still jumping.** Fresh https://s14.postimg.org/nj23bu1oh/shanty_to_shop_13.jpg Watch out world China is growing. For 5,000 years they have been growing and rarely shrinking. Everything you see on TV about China is not what it’s like. It really is an amazing place and I love living here. Do I want them to take over the world? Hell no. But once you live here it’s difficult to see the differences in our paths. West is not as free as you think and China is a lot more developed than they want you to know. **Bulk or Not. What do you Need?** https://s15.postimg.org/awgf1jlxn/shanty_to_shop_14.jpg **They can hide behind “developing” country status** because it makes western nations feel secure but they are right up there with us in so many levels **Bai Jiu. aka White wine, Chinese style .** https://s17.postimg.org/9jg2jlphr/shanty_to_shop_16.jpg **That's my nearest shop** Any questions jut ask.
