I have really been enjoying my deer meat
<center>

A few months back I received around twenty pounds of deer meat, my friend had a really good hunting season and had extra to hand out. Since then I have roasted it and cooked it in a soup. Both were quite tasty, the quality of the meat cannot be beat. And I always feel good after consuming it. Though my only complaint would be how fatty some of it is, and maybe I should have taken the large pieces to a local butcher process the meat. My friend did great field stripping it but left a lot of giblets on it.

Here is a large piece of deer in a glass baking tray, I combined potatoes, carrots and onions with some broth and cooked it in the oven for a hour or so. The meat was quite tender and made the whole house smell real good.

There are many ways you can cook deer, but a few really do better than others. Making sure the meat stays hydrated seems to be the way to go. Cooking in crock pots work well too.

Cutting it open I could see it was done, and a large piece of meat was now ready for me to eat over the next week or so. I section it all up into meals.

Next time I cooked some more deer it was the neck and shoulder, it must have been the largest piece he gave me. And stuck out of the large pot I had it cooking in for some deer stew.

Eventually I flipped it over so both sides got well cooked. And then cut all the meat off the bones and placed in glass storage containers for me to eat over the next few days.

I still have a lot of meat, probably half of it is left. So will need to think of some more creative ways to use it. This is the first time I have got a bulk selection of deer meat. So I am finding myself just planning as I go. I think my friend already consumed all of his, haha he was eating nothing but deer meat for a few months straight. He nearly got his tag limit this year so he had quite a bit, though some of it was no good and had to dispose of bad meat. But the pieces he saved for me were excellent, and looking forward to cooking with it some more.
