I decided to delve into the dark and murky waters of the crypto currency world for the very first time. As a complete virgin in said world and with all the big boy coins out of the price range I was initially prepared to invest, I decided to look for promising new coins and become a proud early adopter. However, after googling and being presented with pages upon pages of Initial Coin Offerings, I became very quickly disheartened.</p>
<p>Are all Initial Coin Offering’s (ICO’s) bad? Probably not, but with so many new coin start-ups using this unregulated crowd funding method, I found it almost impossible to come up with any sort of reasonable filter (as a would-be investor) to discern potential opportunities from grab-the-money-and-run schemes.</p>
<p>Finally, I happened across an article on oracletimes.com about a new altcoin start-up created by experienced developers. They had become so disillusioned with the practices and broken code in other coins they have been involved with (but had little say in), that they had decided to pool all their resources and idea’s to start their own coin. Best of all, they were completely against ICO’s and are self-funded. Phew at last, I had found an interesting one to investigate.</p>
<p>One of the first things I clocked, was that Ultranote (xun) was geared up to be mined by the casual miner i.e. me, with my Laptop or Desktop PC. You can even do it straight from their GUI wallets. The idea is that it will always be CPU/GPU minable and the network is also protected against big miners getting all the coins using sites such as Nicehash. So I started mining, and having accumulated a good number of coins as an early adopter and have not looked back.</p>
<p>Ultranote (XUN) is barely 3 months old but there has been rapid progress by the developers moving this coin forward.</p>
<p>Here are some key features that are live now which I consider Pros:</p>
1.	<b>A good diversity of wallets</b> -  for Windows, Linux, Mac. Paper and Online wallets are also available.<br><br>
2.	Mining available from the GUI wallets.<br><br>
3.	<b>Very low transaction fees</b> - for as little as 0.001 XUN allowing for micro-transactions.<br><br>
4.	<b>Fast transaction times</b> – Blocks are cleared every 2 minutes which is 5 times faster than Bitcoin (Yes I’ve been learning something).<br><br>
5.	<b>Secure messaging</b> - feature allowing you to send messages with your transactions. This is something that made the XUN stand out to me.<br><br>
6.	<b>Deposit System</b> – Now this is a feature I use a lot. You basically become your own bank. You can deposit and lock your coins onto the blockchain for between 1 and 12 months and gain 0.25% to 3% interest. I personally deposit every coin I mine per day. Now, after more than a month of mining I now have a passive income of coins unlocking with interest each and every day which I can then sell or redeposit to compound the interest. If mining is not your thing then buy some coins on the exchange https://stocks.exchange to deposit while it is early days and cheap.<br><br>

7. Friendly and accessible developers who listen to the community.<br><br>
8. <b>Charity</b> - There is 1 billion XUN deposited and locked earning interest for ‘The Ultranote Foundation’ which will support charities around the globe (details on their blog – link below).<br><br>
<p>As with everything that has Pro’s, there also will be some Con’s. The biggest one is that if you are looking to make a quick buck then maybe this is not the coin for you. It is currently already on one exchange but remember, this coin is self-funded with no ICO to pay the big exchanges the massive amounts they ask for to get listed straight away. It will grow slowly on its own merit and with the support of the community. Also, remember this coin is very new so there may be teething problems from time to time but the developers are very proactive and sort them out quickly.</p>
