Whats up DTubers!? Spencer Ryan here again. 👋🏼

So yesterday DTube released a new update regarding their curation policy. And, truthfully most of it looked good. However there is one thing that stuck out as an extremely damaging policy for both content creators as well as the platform itself. And it is this

> Lowers the vote strength depending on how many votes the author already received this week


So here is my personal message to @dtube team as well as @heimindanger.

I’m sure a lot of people are happy regarding this, because they feel as if their videos have a chance now. Which is great. I do feel like more people deserve more opportunity to receive DTube upvotes. However… Please do not disrespect my production by placing it in the same category as a low quality video. That’s personal. The only reason I am where I am today is because I realized that I was very far off from some really great producers. Had I been given a million dollar deal back when I was producing terrible content, I would never be where I am today. I had to grow, I had to invest, I had to gain experience. It was good for me.

I believe the amount of effort that went into a video on a subjective level meaning (time, equipment, experience, etc) should be taken into account when deciding upvotes. Not based on how many upvotes a creator has received in the past.

Ultimately good quality is good for the platform. Bad quality is bad for the platform. Ned just got embarrassed on public television when Bloomberg Crypto stated that the sentiment is that Steemit is fairly low quality. So in no way is it a solution to start voting “equality” meaning all votes tend to be equal regardless of time, effort, or quality.

The big giants like Facebook, Instagram, Youtube are all where they are today because of their strict enforcement of promoting quality. If we go the opposite direction, we will never survive as a platform. So my message to @dtube is this. Please, continue to promote good quality. Do not punish those who do more, by giving them less. And ultimately, your voting power is regenerative. Find new creators and give them a chance too. But please, do not promote “bad” videos or punish those who do more.
