Things are somewhat different in Europe. Such "cluttered" water as our reservoir, there is virtually none. Even rivers in recent decades have been cleared of man-made debris ( including sunken ships). Of course, and European fishermen catch a jig with control of the bottom. Natural relief ( macro and micro) has not been canceled. And fishing at the shore edge, too. But besides the classics ( in our sense) the Europeans are very popular, this method of fishing like vertical jigging in water over the flocks forage fish ( baiting fish ).
