0.000 HBDWhen Trading Crypto, Researching Various Exchanges is Vital
http://i66.tinypic.com/34y1r36.jpg This post is to discuss a recent experience researching exchanges. I thought I’d found one that fit my needs; but, after signing up, kept getting an "error generating address" message. The exchange is Bittrex. The persistent message was frustrating; but, after a deeper delving accepted that it's probably in my best interest, if this is another exchange going the way of Poloniex, in terms of reliability. After a little more searching, I came across a big push for a relatively new exchange; Binance. I looked into it; and, observed how popular it is becoming. However, the deeper I delved, the more uncomfortable I became. You’re probably familiar with that little twinge in your spirit when you’re buying in on something that…let’s just say, is a little too new to give a go. I’ll leave it at that. The major flag raised and waved highly when I learned the country of origin. There’s nothing against this nation of beautiful people; but, I do know that this is a Communist nation. I do know that they were allegedly sending oil to NK in the dark of night, breaking embargo rules. I do know that people who live there write simple emails in cryptic lingo to prevent being ‘targeted’ by the government. In spite of all of these red flags, guess what I did. Yes, I joined; forging past every hesitance. After logging in, I received this double-layer of protection ‘offering’; by way of Gargoyle. Arghhhh….What?...Gargoygle? Public archive of the world, Gargoyle? Uhm, no, that’s okay. I will take my chances on the added 'security'. On to the step to deposit funds. To my dismay, I had to buy using BTC. This meant being tapped with the exorbitant Coinbase fees; and, I wasn’t feeling that. But, just for the hoo of it, I clicked on Bit Shares to test things out a bit. A click on the share, gave me this persistent, *‘we want to protect you’* pop-up, admonishing that I sign up for double protection with, as noted, GARGOYLE. I was getting creeped out; because on logging in, this exchange made it very clear they knew exactly where I was located. Ewwwww…..Smh…lol...not really funny, as this really creeped me out. You see Steemians, I know it’s more illusion than anything else; but, I love the 'idea' of decentralization. I'd love to keep the two worlds separate, for no other reason than the two have very different visions. But, not to tarry. After the pop-up letting me know I **_should_** get my special security key with Gargoyle, I bypassed the opportunity by clicking on the X. Ha! If you think this got me into the next phase of buying, you must not know the country who owns this exchange. There is stringent protocol; no real freedoms of choice. You want to use this exchange, you play by the rules. (Don't bother to check, the country isn't listed by name.) I logged out. I 'cleared' my history. I wrote this post, primarily for documentation, and sharing perspective. Call me paranoid; but, I do know that the U.S. is extremely indebted to this nation on a grand scale. I do believe this debt will come due. I believe that it already has on some levels. If you’re into conspiracy theories, you probably know the back-story of the recent California fires. Eventually, I may find an exchange that flows with ease. I encourage you to do your homework when all's a buzz about the next new and upcoming crypto 'win'. It has to be a win-win that comes with minimal qualms. I like openledger.io; but, as many have noted, is very limited in offerings. I’m sure in time this will change. I’m optimistic. Also, a recent comment, by @officialfuzzy, let me know that the ‘glitch’ with Bittrex is quite possibly a result of an unforeseen influx of new users signing up. That’s a great thing, if this theory holds true. Again, I’m optimistic. Blessed “New Year” 2018! And, btw, if it feels a whole lot like ‘last year’….lol…you’re not alone, and actually quite sane. Here’s lifting a prayer of encouragement and well-being for all in the Steem community. Peace. http://i65.tinypic.com/142zbs1.jpg
