Hyperloop overview
Elon Musk's Hyperloop, for example. Since 2013, the Silicon Valley business magnate has been teasing us with hints of a low-pressure train/tube system capable of reaching mind-blowing speeds of up to 1,200 km per hour.

What a Hyperloop-ed future could look like.

To give you an idea of just how fast that is, the Hyperloop could apparently make the journey from Los Angeles to San Francisco in just 30 minutes. Not bad for a trip that'll currently take you about an hour and a half by plane.

With this technology in mind, this map published by the 2007 book Transit Maps of the World takes on a whole new meaning. We can imagine ourselves hopping from continent to continent aboard trains between Shanghai and New York, passing through Bucharest, Bologne, Madrid or Buenos Aires en route.

Ignoring the fact that the map has visibly underserved Africa, the illustration gives us a little of what Elon Musk's interconnected planet could look like – and we have to say it's a world we could get on board with.
