Here are some of the most common causes of an aching belly button that you should be aware of :

- **Umbilical Cord**
The umbilical cord is attached to the baby from the mother during pregnancy and fetus development. It is a route through which the food, antibodies, and nutrition are transferred to the baby from the mother. At the time of birth, this cord it cut off to detach the baby from the mother and later it is naturally healed and the muscles are closed. However, in some cases, the muscles are not able to close and heal completely, which could cause strangling of the tissues. Due to this, the patient can develop a hernia, which is in the form of a growth on the belly button. This condition is sometimes not life-threatening and can become chronic. However, it could be painful for many people and result in the death of regional cells. As a result, lethal infections can be developed. It is recommended to get this condition properly treated.
- **Gallbladder Stones**
We all are aware how stones can be developed over time inside our bodies. These stones can deposit in the kidney as well as gallbladder due to different causes. Inside the gallbladder, this deposition is due to cholesterol. Gallbladder stones can result in severe pain in the region which is at the belly button proximity. Since it’s difficult to understand where exactly the pain is occurring, it could be felt as a pain in the belly button. When these stones block the passage and duct of the gallbladder, it leads to a severe pain. If the pain is associated with this condition, you may also experience yellowing of the skin and fever due to inflammatory conditions.
