Could crypto dice games be used for money laundering?
This is just an idea that occured to me today when I saw [this story](https://cryptobriefing.com/dapps-made-more-app-store/) about how dapps are turning over more than the App Store (presumably Apple's) did in its first year. They have a lot of catching up to do as the store made $12 billion last quarter! BTW @roelandp gets a mention in that article.

They are using data from [Dapp.com](https://www.dapp.com/article/annual-dapp-market-report-2018). This is still a very young market with a small userbase. Few people are into crypto and even less use dapps. Of course every Steem user is using a dapp of some sort.

I was looking at @stateofthedapps and it struck me that many of the [top ones by volume](https://www.stateofthedapps.com/rankings?sort=usd_value_7d&order=desc) are games of chance. Some are turning over tens of millions of dollars each week. Steem's own @magicdice is way down the list.

As I understand it these games should not earn you a profit if they are truly random and you play long enough as they take a cut of the winnings, yet they get a lot of players. Some of those may just enjoy it or be compulsive gamblers, but for some the players are averaging $1000s each.

I've heard of money laundering going on with some automated betting machines, so maybe it could happen with crypto too. I'm not sure it would work as you should be able to see that a given account played the game and got winnings, so it doesn't seem that good a way of doing it, but I know little about it. I'm sure on a global scale much larger amounts are being moved around and crypto may play a part in that as some coins offer more anonymity.

Just something to ponder.

Steem on!
