I have been meaning to write about the garden for a while. Things are coming along nicely and there is plenty to do.  Our 'dry river bed' is looking more settled in now with various plants around. We got some of these at a sale at the church. I like the big thistle and the foxgloves.  We have some things in big pots. The milk churn is just something that has been around for years. We want to train the rose along the hedge. The bird feeder gets lots of visitors, but we have a gang of starlings who just empty everything in minutes.  In one raised bed we have potatoes, tomatoes and onions as well as some flowers.  In there other are beans, peas, parsnips and courgettes (zucchini). The latter could be ready soon and we may get a lot, but we will have to water as it has not rained much lately. We get some light showers that do not really soak in.  The new strawberry tub is doing well. It is nice to not have to crouch down to pick them. The potatoes in the other are not doing so well so far.  The raspberries are doing really well and I have been picking lots. The blackcurrants are not quite ready.  The other tomatoes a looking good. I need to tie them up. We have various varieties in some grow bags that will need watering.  We were given the shiny balls a while back. They make a nice feature on the pebbles around the hazel. I like sitting out there listening to the birds and we have had some meals out there. I know we are fortunate to have a garden, but ours is big and can be a lot of work. I have been hacking back various things to try and keep it nice, but we allow some space for wildlife. There have been lots of bees enjoying the flowers. The pond has some mosquitoes, but they are not too much of a problem here. I need some other creatures to move in that will eat them. I enjoy seeing what other Hivers are up to with their gardens as they inspire me. I do not consider myself to be much of a gardener really, but we can still enjoy what we have.
