Learning to loop
Some time ago I bought a [Boss RC-1 Loop Station](https://www.boss.info/us/products/rc-1/) pedal from a friend. He had found it did not do what he wanted, which was to store multiple backing tracks. It has 12 minutes of storage, but that is just one track with no ability to upload songs. I think he got the RC-3 instead. I just wanted something that I could use for practice. I have looper functions in my Zoom G3X and Roland Cube, but they only handle up to 40s.

I have been planning for a while to make a footswitch to get easier access to the functions. Otherwise you have to tap or hold the single button in different ways to stop or undo. I have ordered the parts for that now. I could just buy the Boss ones, but they are really expensive. I know they can do other functions, but I just need a couple of switches and some sockets. I actually had the sockets already. May have found a box to use in the shed.

Last night I watched a demo of the pedal that taught me how the undo words. You have to hold the pedal whilst it is playing. That removed the last set of recorded loops. The neat thing is that repeating that action brings them back! If you just record again they are lost. This video is of me attempting to use this creatively. Having to hold the button causes some issues. I also had to re-do some parts that did not work.

I will admit to some influence from [Matt Stevens](http://mattstevensguitar.com/) who I have seen live and even had him buy me a pint. He is a real master of this sort of thing. I also know other people who do great things with a looper.

This is the set-up I used. I was just using the looper into the Zoom which provided an amplifier model. That was fed into my M-Audio interface.

This tune is just me noodling. I did a version of this last night that did not get recorded. When I have the extra switches it should get a little easier.
