To be honest I've never seen American Pie, so I didn't know where that line came from. Just found it now.

Anyway, I was actually writing about [Bandcamp](https://daily.bandcamp.com/2017/01/24/everything-is-terrific-the-bandcamp-2016-year-in-review/) the music site who had a really good 2016, despite the general music industry struggling. 

You can see from [my collection](https://bandcamp.com/steevc) that I have bought a stack of music there. I've got into a lot of bands who are not always on big labels or played on the radio, but why should I care? I can support them directly via a site that gives around 80% of the money to the artists. 

Some of those I've enjoyed include:

* [Amanda Palmer](https://amandapalmer.bandcamp.com/album/strung-out-in-heaven-a-bowie-string-quartet-tribute): A cool tribute to Bowie

You can generally listen to most of the music before you buy and sometimes choose how much to pay. The artists have control. Now, if only they could accept Steem! Can we make that happen?
