We have been in North Wales for a family event that has involved lots of eating, drinking and general socialising. One of my cousins is working on walking the whole Welsh coastline and suggested we do some of it together.  We started in Llanystumdwy and parked outside the former home of British prime minister David Lloyd George. There is a museum dedicated to him there, but we had no time for that. There were 19 of us plus a puppy.  We picked up the coastal path that first took us across fields of sheep and a railway line. There was a long stretch of water that is separated from the sea by dunes and was a little smelly. At one stage we walked on a boardwalk over a marshy area that had some parts of a old sea wall. There were cows grazing there. I expect people have managed this land for centuries to get what they can from it. Eventually we reached the town of Criccieth which I have visited a few times. My family camped there when I was a kid and we were there a couple of years ago when we had some fine fish and chips. Apparently a hotel there was where young people would gather for discos back when my cousins were young.  There was a hot if a hill to climb after that, hit the wall was mostly pretty flat. Then we came to Black Rock Sands, which it a huge beach. People drive their cars onto it and spread out. That was a long stretch. At the far end we climbed some rocks to join the path and wait for some of the group. We saw a bit of drama when a jetski ran aground on a sandbank. He seemed to be okay, but needed help from a boat to get off.  Then it was a short walk through some woods to meet my parents in Borth-y-Gest, which is a little fishing village near Porthmadog.  The weather was not too bad for walking with just a few drops of rain. We had a barbecue in the evening. Good times.
