0.000 HBDstemng digest: week #7
Welcome to a new episode in the stemng digest series where we bring to you some of the best posts under the #stemng tag in the past week. Let me start with an apology for the little delay in this week's episode, it was due to some real life circumstances. As a reminder, stemng is a sub-community of steemSTEM, a community-driven project which seeks to promote well-written and informative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics posts by Nigerians on Steemit. The project involves submitting quality STEM-related posts to the steemSTEM management for upvoting and resteeming where applicable. More information about stemng activities can be found [here](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@stemng/introducing-stemng-tag-a-sub-community-of-steemstem-for-nigerian-science-technology-engineering-and-mathematics-related-posts), while information of what it means to be part of steemSTEM can be found [here](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@steemstem/being-a-member-of-the-steemstem-community) as well. The management has traveled far and wide the corners of #stemng tag and selected the posts they think is the best for each day of this last week. Relax and enjoy as we take you through the best posts of the last seven days. ___ ## Saturday: [Generating Electricity From A Piezoelectric Crystals By Installing Piezoelectric Transducer In Moving Or Viberating Surfaces](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@gtan/generating-electricity-from-a-piezoelectric-crystals-by-installing-piezoelectric-transducer-in-moving-or-viberating-surfaces) ___ <div class = "pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmUsGvvEN3kEnicftGjHJvKmfg6CVW5W2tf4HrRCii2rXv/images.jpg</div> Apart from the rewards and meeting awesome people from all over the world, learning new things is one of the best attributes of steemit. Who could have thought that electricity could be generated by movement of bodies on surfaces? Well, I am as ignorant as some of the readers. Piezoelectric crystals has been demonstrated to be able to generate electricity by installation of piezoelectric transducer on moving surfaces. You all can read more on @gtan's blog. ___ ## Sunday: [Translating Dolphin’s Language To Human-Understandable Language](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@samminator/translating-dolphin-s-language-to-human-understandable-language) ___ <div class="pull-left">https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://i.imgur.com/Ipde55K.jpg</div> Perhaps we will get to a point where artificial intelligence will take over everything. I have always known dolphins to be awesome animals. Not talking about steemit dophins here :). Here in this post, @samminator showed us how dolphins were been taught to speak human languages and not just that, the development AI powered software that could translate the animal's language was also illustrated. What else can AI not do? ___ ## Monday: [LASER: The angel you don't know](https://steemit.com/stemng/@henrychidiebere/laser-the-angel-you-don-t-know) ___ <div class="pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/DQmdzjQmTZGf8X5p4nvwxwDyJRwWf4aqiL1ithDE4Xb6GCh/image.png</div> Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) are not just about weapons, they a wide range of applications in communication, computers and many other fields. I never knew that LASER was actually an acronymup until this post by @henrychidiebere. On which principle is this LASER actually based? Well, you might want to visit and read more on it. ___ ## Tuesday: [Some strange/unusual animal hybrids, we probably didn’t know existed.](https://steemit.com/steemstem/@florae/some-strange-unusual-animal-hybrids-we-probably-didn-t-know-existed) ___ <div class="pull-left">https://steemitimages.com/DQmXZ4NQce4KJCYX2dfBcCb2pzC1v255UTkmYhZf2x99mWQ/08C5B547-174C-42FA-9067-EAB572A44BF3.jpeg.jpg</div> Animal hybrids are quite common around us, especially when it comes to domesticated animals. However, how familiar are we with animal hybrids like the one between whale and dolphin (wolphin), cattle and buffalo (beefalo) and a host of others? Visit @florae's blog to read an interesting epistle on unusual animal hybrids. ___ ## Wednesday: [Our sky's interaction with solar radiations --- The ozone layer, it's depletion, and what we could do to save our planet.](https://steemit.com/stemng/@pangoli/our-sky-s-interaction-with-solar-radiations-the-ozone-layer-it-s-depletion-and-what-we-could-do-to-save-our-planet) ___ <div class="pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/DQmW5ebi79xUPY5nJmYKXg9SxubeoMDKpohuXKakNUTBiuL/reflected_radiation.jpg</div> There is no doubt that only a small portion of the radiations from the sun reaches the earth. This means that a lot of absorption, reflections or probably re-absorption must have happened along the way via the ozone layer, the clouds and perhaps the atmosphere. How exactly do all these happen? What does the ozone layer looks like and how is the human activities affecting it? Hurry over to @pangoli's blog to learn more about these stuff. ___ ## Thursday: [CLONES. What Are They?](https://steemit.com/stemng/@agbona/clones-what-are-they) ___ <div class="pull-left">https://steemitimages.com/DQmZfq1fFpZTb4FwKR9ghkXj7WC9QhtQzFjGZpDjRzajxgZ/stormtrooper-1343772_960_720.jpg</div> A really beautiful piece of work from @agbona. The world of genes, DNA, cloning and clones is a really complex one. However, this article made it simpler to understand the basics of all these terms. Ever heard about the story of dolly the sheep? Well, it was not actually a fiction, it was a real life experiment aimed at cloning. Go over to @agbona's blog to read more on these phenomena. ....and finally; ___ ## Friday: [Introduction To The World of Data Communication](https://steemit.com/stemng/@noble-noah/introduction-to-the-world-of-data-communication) ___ <div class="pull-right">https://steemitimages.com/DQme8Hc7XtFwqdAAqzorpaxFZZGrJYTPqfGavsSzD7URe29/network-698598_960_720.jpg</div> Communication is an essential part of existence. Even though there are wide varieties of communication between human to human, human to animals, human to machines and vice versa, there is no doubt that data is becoming increasingly crucial in every form of communication. Exactly how are data used to communicate? @noble-noah took us through the basics of it. A really enjoyable one, I must say. ___ ## About the selection process ___ The post for each day was selected based on consensus between the stemng management, in persons of @greenrun and @gentleshaid. This week's selections were made by @greenrun. Do not feel discouraged if your post did not make the list, there are rooms for improvement for everyone. Find time to read these guidelines if you really wish to improve on your STEM-related writings. Support for @stemng are welcomed in any form, including upvotes, resteems and steem power delegations. Feel free to interact with fellow stemians in the steemSTEM channel on [steemit chat](https://steemit.chat/channel/steemSTEM) and or on our [discord server](https://discordapp.com/invite/KrWykYs). All curation rewards earned will be used to fund @stemng project. Till next Saturday!
