As per @steemitblog requested, I'd like to give one possible answer to the following question:

What would you like Steemit to make a priority for 2018?

First of all: a big thank you to Steemit, Inc for the opportunity to share our ideas with you. You will need a lot of time to go through all the submissions that you're going to receive, so it's great to see that you made this 'your priority'.

Here's my take on the #roadmap2018!

Picture kindly provided by pixabay.com

Making a wish.

To be honest I didn't have to think very long about my no. 1 wish for Steemit's future plans.

There is one thing I would highly prioritize for 2018 if I was in charge.

Most of the time change happens as a consequence of a certain need, and solutions are invented to fill a gap and to respond to that need (demand).

The no. 1 demand in an attention economy is a valid reason to spend time. It's providing an answer to the question: why should I spend my valuable time on your platform and not on any other?

Goal: Any time spent on steemit needs to be valuable.

Maybe some of us have become a bit blind to shortcomings in the network's processes during the past months.

We're deep into it.

While we think about how to make the already existing algorithms even more complex, probably we might do one step back, try to look at a bigger picture and remember why we're even here.

It has to be much more than just money.

What makes us spend time on/with Steemit?

Retention is key.

The number of newly created accounts on steemit has been constantly increasing, having reached its ultimate peak of 450,000 accounts recently.

Yet, the active user base is not behaving in the same manner.

Considering the latest Steemit statistics provided by @arcange, the number of active users is decreasing, thus evoluting disproportionally to the number of new accounts.

The user experience is not meeting the user's expectations for some reason.

When retention fails, there are not enough reasons for people to stay on this platform and keep spending their valuable time on it.

That's why I believe that the no. 1 question with regards to the roadmap 2018 should be: How can we improve user retention?

Here are some more questions to think about from a user's perspective:

Is it entertaining to browse through this website? Does it encourage me to stay longer / spend even more time here?

Is content actively offered to me, according to my personal fields of interest? Am I able to pre-select certain fields of interest and like that personalize the content structure?

Does the user interface inspire / encourage me to produce content? Am I provided with the relevant tools to make content production as comfortable as possible?

Does the site provide me with possibilities to share my content on websites outside steemit's boarders?

Is it comfortable for me to search specific content and do the results fulfill my need?

Does my user experience match with vision of the platform being the future in internet technology?

Are there enough reasons for me to come back and repeat my user experience?

Would I recommend this site to my friends?

I strongly believe that a positive user experience doesn't need to necessarily depend on monetary success. When time spent on steemit was valuable for many reasons, we also wouldn't have so many discussions about rewards distribution.

Many people who joined steemit back in summer 2016 stayed due to the 'community spirit'.

The ones that participated in Steemfest² will perfectly understand what that means. It's far beyond any monetary reward, number of followers or reputation. People love spending time on steemit due to uncountable soft facts.

It's not only about the hard facts and numbers, it's rather about soft facts. If we were able to transmit that community spirit from our offline events to the platform, we'd be one huge step ahead.

Time spent on steemit has to be unforgettable!

It has to be a mind-blowing experience!

As an additional note: 7 months ago Steemit Inc's marketing team called for marketing proposals, searching for new ideas in order to encourage growth. In that context I published an article called Growth Needs Retention - The "Theme Park Idea" that basically covers a lot of the ideas mentioned in this article. You might want to have a look at it as well.

Thanks for your attention and valuable time!

Looking forward to your feedback,

Marly -

Thanks for your valuable time!
This blog was launched at the end of July 2016
aiming to provide stories for open-minded
people who enjoy living on the edge of their lives,
stepping out of comfort zones, going on adventure,
doing extreme sports and embracing the new.
Welcome to the too-much-energy-blog!

PS: Don't forget that this is a troll-free zone.

Original content.
