Lately I've found myself more and more in trouble not knowing exactly how to cover the span between my interests as a blogger and my responsibility as a curator.

I'm not talking about time management, I'm rather trying to find a fair way of distributing my voting power. Steemit's community is growing fast, a lot new users are joining the platform, and everybody should get some attention.

However, voting power is limited and so is the distribution of rewards.

Is there still a golden middle course?

Trying To Find The Right Way

On steemit you can be a curator who doesn't blog but you can't be a blogger that doesn't curate.

Being part of a social network means: give and take. However, if you've reached a certain number of followers from a mathematical point of view it's impossible to appreciate every vote you receive with an outgoing one.

But then how to fairly allocate the few voting power we have?

The moment you decide to support one person you automatically decide to NOT support another.

Where To Spend Our Attention?

Is it more important to pay for comments or curate new content?

An average number of comments I currently receive for a blog posts ranges from about 20 to 40.

One of my core principles as member of this amazing network is that every person who takes the time to comment on my content deserves a certain recognition.

I believe that a personal comment is the most valuable type of social interaction we do have in this eco-system.

Now, If I decided to appreciate all of the received comments giving them a 100% upvote each, my voting power would run out quickly.

Good.

But then if I reduced the share, how much would be appropriate? How much is a comment worth?

That's the way I've done it lately: full voting power paid for comments.

But then you receive messages from people who send you links to their blogs asking for your support. You bookmark the article and so you do with 100 others... then you add 'more voting power' to your steemit wishlist.

It feels like being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea!

Probably being a 'fair' and responsible curator in that context doesn't mean that you distribute your power equally.

First of all it means that you care and try to support the people that you like and the content that meets the criteria you've previously defined.

To me it also means supporting brandnew entries, introduction posts, new talents - trying to give them a good feeling right from the start.

If you miss some then this is a logical consequence of the fact that ressources are not infinite.

I don't use any bots, so the chance that I miss somebody or something is even higher. However, bots wouldn't make anys sense to me since I decided to use a major port of my daily power to pay for comments - not only in my own blog but also in others.

My conclusion: Ressources are limited and there will always be much more talented authors and valuable content than voting power. We can only try to find an appropriate way to somehow recognize all of them and their creativity.

Attention is a highly desired good, and the fact that it's limited makes it even more valuable.

Now I'd love to know how you manage to distribute your voting power 'fairly'?

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, Steemians ❤️

Marly -

Title picture: IGN.com; Quotes: pinterest.com and quotemaster.org.
