I Made The List! A Little Romance Thrown My Way.

This week I felt a little underappreciated and somewhat sensitive. While I had no reason to feel this way, since I really have a wonderful life filled with those who love me and who I love in return, I still had a dark cloud hanging over me, like I needed a little reassurance. My husband read my thoughts, or perhaps he noticed my sour attitude, and he surprised me with these beautiful flowers and a list, a piece of paper that means the world to me. This small gesture was just what I needed. I just needed a reminder that I am loved and appreciated.

To appreciate the full meaning behind the list shown in the image, you would have to be an avid fan of the hit American mockumentary show called The Office. My husband and I are HUGE fans and we have watched the all of the seasons numerous times, this is how we spend most of our quality time together. In one of the episodes, entitled The List, the employees of Dunder Mifflin are divided into lists, according to "winners" and "losers", according to the opinion of their new somewhat psychopathic boss. Obviously, chaos ensues, as always. But the special part happens towards the end, when Jim (one of the main characters) gives his wife, who had been feeling overly sensitive and a little under-appreciated herself at the time, his own list. In one column he lists her, his child and his unborn baby, in the other column he lists "everything else", indicating that his family are his "winners"

So while the flowers are gorgeous, it is the simple list that my husband gave me that made my heart melt and my feelings did a complete 180. First of all, he knows my favorite part in the whole series (the part where Pam is given Jim's list), so already the sentiment is sweet and considerate, secondly, he made an effort to put his own list together, and last, but not least, he used this gesture to uplift my spirits when I was at a low point, despite everything I have going for me.

Amazing how such a simple gesture can create so much positive energy right?!

I learnt something from this too - that small gestures go a long way. I learnt that showing someone appreciation in even the smallest of ways can ignite a feeling of self worth in that person. It makes them feel loved! Write your "list" and give it to the person who means the world to you!
