I was just having a look at some of the charts at https://coinlib.io/global-crypto-charts and was wondering if any one could shed some light on some things. https://i.imgur.com/8oRZt7x.jpg As we can see in this first chart, the total market cap for the year is down 80% from a high of ~820 billion to the current ~120B. But what is happened in September to the volume? Was there some law change somewhere? From May to the end of August there was a steady 15-20 billion volume per day and then it suddenly flattens out to about 7 billion for the rest of the year, just after a large spike at the end of August. Anyone know? I don't understand half the charts and numbers that appear on exchange sites and the like but I do find them interesting to look at to pretend that I see patterns or something. When the real money starts pouring in, I expect that pretty much everything is going to benefit but at some point, it will drain into projects that appear viable. Obviously in my opinion, Steem is a strong candidate for future viability even though there are other projects similar. What I am hoping is that application development will find ways to create compelling use cases and heavily simplify the processes so that the learning curve for the average user is next to zero. This isn't so easy when there are security concerns as well as financial incentive that brings all kinds of scammers with it. One of the issues that needs to be worked out is account recovery as currently it is a bit of a headf*ck for people who lose their keys and these are the early adopters. It is going to get exponentially worse when there are millions of normal people jumping on the crypto bandwagons and coming into the communities. I think that it would be a competitive advantage and future risk mitigation if Steem can make account recovery much more painless. I am not sure what that would require but perhaps there could be an integrated app that is both secure and simple to do it with minimal human interaction. What is certain though is that it is going to be a massive amount of bad press when normies who are buying in lose their investments in time and money to what will quickly be seen as scammers. I am also wondering how many of them would be willing to have their identities known to some centralized system in order to protect their funds, and if that centralized system can be decentralized enough that it never need reveal identities to a government authority. Due to the technology of blockchain and crypto, the coming years are going to see an increasing number of questions raised concerning rights of privacy and what ownership really means in regards to tax liability and state obligations. By design, these systems are borderless and largely unstoppable and even if legislated out, can operate and even thrive in the shadows, something that the authorities and current users don't actually want to have happen. The public discourse on all of this is going to get very interesting and likely, very heated as once it starts, it is going to reveal a whole lot of economic weakness and manipulation that has been hidden from most people so far. Most know the current economy is rigged, they just don't completely understand how. Fun times ahead as the fire heats up. Taraz [ a Steem original ]
