<div class="text-justify"> This is a bit of an odd family portrait perhaps, but it is one that marks the "end of an era" taken this morning, as we dropped Smallsteps off to daycare for the last time. I wasn't there to pick her up, but at least I got this moment and caught it for prosperity in the daycare window as we waved goodbye, a ritual performed 1000 times before. Despite being only on my phone camera, I like the portrait and I wish that I had taken more over the years. Considering how many photos I take, I feel there are never enough of us together and, never enough of them with me in it, even though I don't like being in photos. She seems so grown up. But considering how short my wife and I are - she doesn't have a lot of hope of becoming a giant. At least, her clothes and shoes will last longer. They are both on holiday now and will spend tomorrow together while I finish off what I can of the work on my table still and do as much prep as possible for when I return. There is a lot to do. But, I don't plan on stressing about it too much, despite my supervisor being stressed herself due to the work still outstanding (not outstanding work necessarily). However, considering what has gone on the last months and especially the last 2.5 weeks, I am pretty happy with the effort I have put in and the results accomplished, even if they aren't perfect. *And, I will go on vacation with a clear conscience.* >Less than 24 hours to go. We had booked a cheap AirBnb on the cost for Saturday through to Monday to spend the days on the beach, but we had to cancel it, as according to the forecast, it has gone from hot days there, to thunderstorms and high winds. It would have been our first AirBnb booking, but perhaps it is for the best in this case, as it gives us time to order parts of the kitchen for August, something that we have unfortunately put off due to schedules and might not be able to get all of it in time now. >As long as the bones are in. It is a full renovation, meaning that the entire kitchen is being stripped to nothing, including having the old wall panels removed and starting from as close to scratch as possible. As long as all that structural/electrical work is done, I can *probably* do the rest, but it would be even better if the tradies can do more, since we have some very good ones, relatively cheap - and weirdly, they are fast too! > My summer plans? To try and take it easy. With the stoke before last summer, the *Too early* return to work and starting in a far more intensive new role in January, I feel like the last year has been a write-off. A lot has been done, but I also feel like I don't have any recollection of it, so there is nothing to show for the effort. As I said to a colleague today, it can continue like this for only so long, before my wife leaves and my daughter disowns me. It was funny though, because my wife suggested last night, that I do less on Hive so I have more time to work. But, what she doesn't realize is that it doesn't work that way - working more will just mean burning more fuel for increasingly inferior results. Working on Hive however, *is recharging* me to enable harder and better work. >It is like a daily service with an oil filter change. *I run cleaner because of it.* Without the service, I start to fall apart. After 11 hours straight staring at this screen and keyboard however, I think it is probably a good time to get up and move a little and see what summer fun might be available outside of this office. Tomorrow, I will find out if I will get a bonus for the quarter too, which while it isn't paid til August anyway, would still be nice to know - as it will come in, just in time to give it to an electrician or builder. >it definitely isn't easy come and, it is never easy go.
