I have been reading a few articles here lately on several topics but, I won't get into them now. One phrase that does come up is *"Down the rabbit hole"* and is used to imply a deep dive into information, to follow the threads of a topic wherever they may lead. At the end of the rabbit hole, truth is found. 

These truths are generally the real information on topics considered conspiracies, from assassinations to alien abductions to pedophilia coverups and human cloning. Those that follow the trail must face all kinds of ordeals, just like the eccentric and psychedelic adventures of the phrase's source, *Alice in wonderland*

The reward to take the journey for a truthseeker is large as it takes work, searching, reading and following the crumbs that lead on and on. The more one travels the length of the hole, the more invested one becomes and that is of course going to encounter a sunk cost fallacy dilemma.

After researching and reading all that way, how can what is found not be true? But, for the most part these days, *none* of the people doing the searching actually have any immediate contact with the situation itself, it is all second hand knowledge, hearsay, the words of others. 

This doesn't make them incorrect but, we are living in the world of the internet, the playground of a lot of trolls, less than stable minds but more importantly, governments and their operatives. People seem to discount this side of the story, they think the rabbit hole is real, the crumbs are real, the white rabbit they chase is real. They work under the assumption that the information is clean, uncompromised by those who benefit from misdirection.

What if they are plants?

The low quality web coding and 1995 visuals, gifs and tiled backgrounds. The hidden faces, changed names, sketchy backgrounds and the liberal smatterings of conspiracy buzzwords. Maybe, it is all too convenient. After all, why would those who have the power for atrocity and conspiracy not fill in the holes with cement?

You don't want to believe they can, do you? You don't want to believe you may have been duped into thinking you know the truth so you will dismiss this notion as ludicrous. They are too disorganized, they don't have the reach, they couldn't possibly coordinate the engineering of such trails for the paths are too wide, too organic.

Memes spread, that is what they do. They know that, don't you?

This is the age of the internet with those looking for fame and fortune and anonymous infamy. A few hints here, a leaked document that falls into the right hands and published over there and soon, the network builds itself, the tale weaves its own web. They tunnel their own paths to reach conclusions that through the very organic nature of their development, seem plausible to someone who has followed the and now feels they have experienced a revelation of *truth*. 

It is a story as old as stories, is it not? The things legends are made of and gospels. The path to enlightenment or tyranny is taken one step at a time. And with nudges to goad one on and just enough work to obtain the next level, the con is complete, the lure swallowed, the conspiracy and its conclusion have become alternative facts held in the minds of those who believe they now know.

Do you think you are smarter than they, smarter than those playing a game thousands of years long to manipulate the masses, the ones trained in deception, propaganda and manipulation of mind? Are you sure?

You could have just run a maze of their making like a mouse searching for the cheese at the end of a tunnel but, a box of their creation nonetheless. The rabbit hole that twists and turns for the mouse appears straight to the designer for they have worked backwards from the conclusion to signpost the way. And when run from the start, the path seems one of randomness yet logical, chance and mistake that all lead to a single point that drives the nail home.

It is how to write a genius character without being a genius, solve the puzzle and work backwards. Hindsight is 20/20.
