Since I have couple of hours spare today, I have the space for time to myself. The shopping center I am in is pretty dead which is no surprise on a Thursday. So, with a coffee close, I can sit at a cafe and write a little. In my last post talking about work, I mentioned I have the luxury of not requiring the job, I am choosing it. The 'not requiring' isn't because I am living it up and made of money, we are actually struggling quite a lot and do need the income but, I back myself in my abilities to earn. https://i.imgur.com/Btf54fb.jpg While I was thinking about it, the other thing that has me much more relaxed in the financial position I find myself, is that I have access to emergency funding of some kind if necessary through Steem. As I have mentioned, I have never used crypto personally and don't plan to in the near future, but having it there as a small safety net if forced is comforting. Sure, it isn't worth what it once was but it could likely get me out of a tight jam if necessary. I don't plan on finding out for certain though. https://i.imgur.com/TlfLeHo.jpg As I see it, multiple revenue streams are a necessity moving forward in life as single jobs that cover living are going to get rarer due to automation of industry. In many ways, most of us are going to probably become freelancers of one sort or another and have to leverage our personal skills to earn. I think platforms like Steem are going to be vital in this and is *another* reason I am bullish on the future for Steem. *Content* covers many potential skill areas and can springboard a whole host of activities that can support millions of revenue streams, from trickles to rivers and across many industries from gaming and education, to news service and porn. https://i.imgur.com/S9GMjd0.jpg But, depending on Steem in the short-term is far from my mind and would only ever be an emergency contingency in the direst of circumstances. I am thinking long on crypto and that brings with it another kind of peace of mind as there is a purpose and meaning to build a foundation for the future here. I feel at least that I am actually investing for the bigger picture for my family, myself and hopefully others who are taking a similar path forward. People don't take community very seriously but when they have to rely on a community to demand their skills for a salary rather than leave it up to an employer, they will likely start spending more time engaging. https://i.imgur.com/nk4QBA5.jpg I think one of the advantages of being in the decentralized game early is that the mindset required for spreading risk as well as the skills necessary to maintain the network can develop before they are actually required. With the growing volatility of the tradition financial systems that will eventually snap and drive mass changes to employment sectors, having options available might be a vital lifeline in the future. For me personally, this is another reason for me to hold as even though it can increase comfort now, I prefer to take the option of decreasing suffering later. I should add that it is a risky option that might not do as I hope but, it is a risk I am willing to take. https://i.imgur.com/M54glJe.jpg The future is shaping up to get pretty messy I think, and getting accustomed to dealing in uncertainty is going to be a skill unto itself that is likely going to come with its own advantages in facing challenges. For many, I feel that they are going to withdraw from the game and become reliant on others who dive headlong into the field of play. I am hoping that I will have the option to play which I think requires building the resources needed before they are needed. In many ways it is how people approach developing resources on Steem. Some look at the price of the post value in fiat to sell now, others in Steem to hold for later. At the moment, the opportunity to earn fiat for living is pretty poor but if looking long, earning Steem for the future is very good. Of course, it might be valueless *yada yada.* As I see it, necessity might be the mother of invention but, it is also the sister of manipulation. When in need and under pressure we tend not to act or perform at our best and often lose sight of the bigger pictures we may hold. Getting trapped in a corner is not a good feeling so for me, mitigating risk by distributing income streams helps me maintain a wider base and reduces risk of complete failure. Yesterday I wrote about not being able to help if one has no resources and it is gong to get interesting in the future as those who have learned to embrace debt find their lives unserviceable. While living on a financial edge currently, the feeling of working toward a better foundation from multiple points feels good, and better than I have felt in a long time. There are people who take the "teach a man to fish" approach and are waiting for someone with authority to provide the lesson. *Learn to fish instead.* Just the act of learning a skill is a skill many are losing though.
