Yesterday @liberosist wrote a piece about content creators and consumers which questions whether Steemit is or ever will be again, a content friendly platform. after all who has the time to read let alone spend the time creating decent content? The problem I mentioned is that *people want as much as possible for as little work as possible.* This is the rise of fast and dirty content getting massively over-rewarded for what it is and because it is so lucrative, it will continue to attract many users. *Great!* you might say to getting rewarded for no much but, the future is bleak. https://i.imgur.com/LZmYRzL.jpg The problem is that every other platform in the world has identical content, and even though you think it is great getting paid for it today, how long can it really last. On top of this, where does it really lead? Low quality content is like low quality food, it may fill the belly but it doesn't provide the nutrients and energy to perform at ones best. You might say, *'But, there are other places for high quality content, Taraz.'* Yes, there are. But that is what Steemit was meant to be as there are *thousands* of other places for low quality content. Steemit was meant to give alternative revenue streams to skilled people of all kinds but if what is getting rewarded is not from the skilled producers, it leads into an abyss of slop and attracts sloppy users. Too harsh? I don't think so as if you look at what is actually getting rewarded is often fast and dirty content thrown together or mounted on an app that over-rewards. Bring in the bid-bots with *guaranteed* returns and it is a recipe for disaster as people not only offer slop to the community, they can guarantee themselves a return by paying upfront to people who are *already invested*. That is ludicrous. I was looking at a profile that had been voted up to $150 with bidbots that consisted of a couple poorly taken selfies. The account had paid for it and was guaranteed about a 30% return. Ok, so that return is higher than my average returns and I am pretty well supported.... *Poorly taken selfies...* Should the bots be voting on such things? No, but why would they care as they not only get paid the upfront fee but, they also earn curation on the vote itself. Win/win for everyone except the longevity of the platform. Should Steemit-backed apps be upvoting stolen memes? No, but why would *they* care? How hard is it really to right click and do a google image search? But, check trending, you will find plenty of memes grabbed from the internet and reposted. So, Steemit is now a platform for taking and reposting what other people have created and is on other platforms and available for free, and paying Steemit users for it. Sounds like a business built to last. I am being harsh because, something needs to be done before it really does descend into an irretrievable abyss of sloppy seconds. It makes a mockery of anyone actually trying to produce something of quality here doesn't it? There are so many people who bring nothing that I can't google to the platform and getting rewarded for it. Guaranteed but the bidots, without checks by the apps. The worst thing is that this platform has the chance to be a place where the skilled, creative and interested can actually do a little more of what they want in this world as they get some reward for it but instead, it is becoming a place of pay to play and unless one pays, there is no chance to make inroads. As I said to @liberosist in regards to real content of all kinds: >I have done my best, do my best and will continue to do my best to produce content of value across several areas but, who actually cares? So many opportunities to do better than the current system, how many will we waste because of short-term greed.... Taraz [ a Steemit original ] *That is a rant.*
