The house that Steem could build
<div class="text-justify">

Steem or no Steem, I am buying a house that requires a lot of renovation work and therefore, a lot of money injected into it. While my plans for Steem are still on track for the future, the current uncertainty should give many people a wake-up call as to what can happen in crypto and *any investment.* Remember, *never invest what you aren't willing to lose *COMPLETELY.*

It doesn't matter if it is money, time, effort or anything else of value you might consider putting in, there is always the chance to lose it all - and it is best to go in accepting this at the start.

Our apartment went on sale this week and there has already been interest in it and there will be at least one private showing on Saturday, before the public on Sunday. What I am hoping is that the private will put in a bid that then be used as a catalyst to gather more bids on Sunday.

There are conditions on our purchase of the other house and other than the inspection that has already cleared, it is now subject to finance, which means selling our place first to cover the deposit required to secure the loan. I am hoping this place sells quickly so that we can get going on the other as some of the renovations require months of planning time ahead of the work being done, as well as permits to work. We have a meeting Monday evening with a bank to try and secure the renovation loan to cover at least some of the major work.

The timing of the TRON nonsense is kind of funny really as due to this house thing, after three years on Steem, I was planning on finally using some crypto to help my family out a bit. lols - *waited a bit too long.* ;D

The plan was to take liquid earnings out monthly if I needed them, and use them to buy the materials I need for the renovation work. Because I will be doing the surfacing work myself, I wouldn't need large lump sums as I can only work as fast as I can work. This means that I would be able to keep writing on Steem and earning to slowly use my work to pay for my work, to build my house.

What I am really looking forward having was,

## A home that Steem built.

Then I'd have two Steem homes - *one real, one digital.*

I see Steem ownership as vital for not only Steem investors, but all future crypto people who are going to learn about how important having highly mobile and flexible currency is to their lives. If Steem ownership becomes meaningless because of the sale of Steemit Inc, then the blockchain uses its core usecase and its future potential anyway. And if other blockchains act similarly, *they all do.* They just become more centralized corporations that look to maximize their gains by minimizing he gains of heir users.

There is nothing wrong with making gains, but *the way* those gains are made matters and unfortunately in history, it generally hasn't been healthily. Which is our fault as consumer too, as we don't mind paying thousands for meaningless material goods, services and entertainment pursuits -

### *but expect people who actually do good in the world to do it for free.*

Blockchain and cryptocurrencies were utilized to do exactly what Steem is doing, cut out middlemen, give the power to users and spread the generated value throughout the community based on the decisions of the community. Take away the decision making power, and it becomes authoritarian.

### "When under my roof, you will..."

But a decentralized blockchain community isn't built under one roof, it is built upon one root. It is the ground upon which the community walks, not the roof that protects it from the rain. The protection comes from the community of individuals building their various homes spread out across the protocol and the roofs that they erect.

The decentralized community isn't safe behind walls, it is the lack of walls that make it so powerful. Rather than national borders, Steem chose borderless. Instead of nationality, STEEM becomes the identifier. And instead of costs, Steem will move anywhere for free.

The ability to move anywhere on the Steem blockchain is akin to having the ability to move anywhere in the world, and because what is owned is digitally secured, it travels wherever we travel.

Well, I do not know where this will all lead, but no much in my life changes at this point. I am selling an apartment, I am buying a house, I am working for my family and trying to make my corner of the world a better place - on the land that I walk on and off the chain.

Keep on Steem.
