The world is starting to notice blockchain.  It is something that is being looked at by many Fortune 1000 companies.  International entities stand to benefit from the distributed ledger which reduces friction on transactions, especially across borders. This ends a paperwork nightmare, along with the paper pushing jobs, that these entities face.

Most associate blockchain with cryptocurrency yet, when you think about it, cryptocurrency is simply the first widespread application that blockchain uses.  It provides monetization to peer-to-peer systems, something that was not present before.

In a decade, this will be small potatoes.  We are going to see things built upon blockchain that truly baffle the mind presently.  We are seeing an unveiling of the future.

It is recently announced that Malaysia is building a blockchain city.  This is a project that is meant to enhance the tourism of the country while erecting one of the leading smart cities in the world.

Envisioning a city built upon blockchain is as foreign as thinking about a company built entirely upon the Internet circa 1992.  It was something that was too far from what is known.

The most notable step in this project is the use of cryptocurrency.  Using the DMI, the entire economy will be based upon this token.  There will be plenty of services to convert fiat over.  Ultimately, it is my view that fiat will not be the most important pair.  Converting to the DMI from other cryptocurrencies is going to be required.  

Fortunately, this will be a rather simple process as the number of exchanges keep growing.

One of the key benefits to blockchain is the immutability of it.  Also, it is a mechanism that makes hacking very difficult.  These are two vital features going forward as we see the conversion towards more digitization.

Blockchain is already linked to technologies like AI and self driving vehicles.  These are situations where a hack can be deadly.  Also, 3D printing lines up well with it meaning that products are going to be manufactured faster and cheaper.  It will shift from centralized hubs to local establishments.

This is all part of constructing a futuristic city.  We are all awaiting the breakthrough application which, I believe, is going to be a digital ID system.  Once that is creating, we are going to see how tying into the services that a city has to offer via blockchain makes a lot of sense.  It provides the benefit while also offering the control and privacy that is missing today.

Technology is the thing to watch these days.  There is a convergence of so many game altering things that we are going to see a massive explosion over the next decade.  The pace of this change is speeding up as we deal with more powerful computers and build upon known algorithms.  

I do feel one of the most important technological breakthroughs will end up being blockchain.  This single technology is going to alter the foundation of every industry.  No matter how business is conducted today, it will be radically different due to blockchain.  In an era of automation, blockchain ends up being an ideal compliment.

If you want some idea of what will be taking place in the future, just read the blockchain/cryptocurrency sites.  They are telling a story most of the world is not paying attention to.
