What does it take to become wealthy?

The formula is written by many yet few can spell it out.  There are millions of self-help books and guides on how to amass [wealth](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-wealth).  Yet, it seems like the only surefire way is to write a book about how to get wealthy.

Even watching the wealthy leaves some clues but doesn't exactly tell us how to go about it.  

We see the "Buffett Way" and millions trying to emulate Warren.  How hard can it be?  Obiously, it is very difficult since few of us ever ascend to that level.

Of ocurse, we see how most react to [market](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-market) condistions and perhaps that gives us insight.

### Bull Markets Are Easy

[Bull markets](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-bull-market) are a piece of cake.  For those involved in markets, 90% of them are genuises during the bull.  Only a few lucky fools can not make [money](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-money) when the bull is running. 

[Bear markets](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-bear-market) are another matter.  Like with the bull, most everyone gets crushed.  Here we see [portfolios](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-portfolio) oblitered, leaving most in despair.  It is a tough time to deal with life when your "fortune" is collapsing before your eyes.

So who are the winners when everyone is losing?

The answer to this is the ones with kahunas.  It takes internal fortitude to succeed in such an environment.  The challenge is we are guaranteed bear markets.  They are a given.  Yet most act completely surprised when [prices](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-price) drop.  It is as if they expect prices only moving one way with the market.

This is insanity.  To be successful, we have to have some sense of reality.  Markets do not go up forever.  Every bull run turns into a bear.  The reverse is also true.

That last sentence is crucial  It is vital to understand how things will reverse no matter how bad it seems.  For this reason, bears are meant to be endured.

It is also where the fortunates are made.

### Bears Are Where The Fortunes Are

Are you adding to your [Bitcoin](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-bitcoin) holding?  [$HIVE](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-usdhive)?  [Amazon](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-amazon-financials)? [Tesla](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-tesla)?

Warren Buffett talks about how bear markets are when some of your favorite [stocks](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-stocks) go on sale.  Ironic how people love to save money except when it comes to investing.  Then, they [FOMO](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-fear-of-missing-out-fomo) and seem to like to overpay.

It takes courage to buy when things are crashing.  Sure, it would be great if we could all pick market bottomes and tops.  From my experience, that is unrealistic.  It is why people often talk about keeping "powder in the keg".  

Those who are on [Hive](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-what-is-hive) who have a long term view are able to weather the down times.  We have the opportunity to keep adding to our stake via our actions.  This is a rather novel concept.  We tend not to get more stock from our efforts during bear markets.  The same is true for [commodities](https://leofinance.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-commodity).

Markets are an exercise in emotion.  It is vital that we are able to control ourselves during these times.  The toughest competitor in all this is the one who stares back at us in the mirror.  

In the end it takes Kahunas to become wealthy.  It appears few are able to muster what it takes.

Having the right mindset in the bear is vital.
