Monday Mono Trees
# Monday Mono Trees

I have made it a habit over the last few weeks to post some mono images on a monday, and I decided to keep with that this week, but I may then take a break as I really struggled with finding photos that I thought would work well in mono this week, and although I am happy with a couple of these images not so sure about the others, but before I discuss that any further let me share the first one, taken in the Oak Grove Cemetery here in New Bedford

Now I don't think all photos can work in Mono, and perhaps trees not so much, but in the first shot being in a cemetery I think it worked fairly well

Another subject that works well in Mono is old or decayed building such as this one of Whites Factory an abandoned building in Acushnet MA

Now some may think that doing a B&W edit is easy just one click on a filter, and on some phone apps that may be the case, but when doing in Lightroom and Photoshop its a bit more complicated than that, I first do a basic edit, some adjustments of light and shadows and often bring out the colors a bit more before converting it to a Mono Image, so in most cases a mono edit for me is more time consuming than a color edit.

Now this next photo is one I keep bouncing back and forth between liking and hating

It was taken in the cemetery again

And for the next shot I am by the Pier here in New Bedford, have shared many shots of the pier and the tree in color, but I quite liked the mood mono gave to this next shot

And finishing off with a shot in Buttonwood Park, it was a nice sunrise this morning and I have edited some shots for a color post, but this tree always catches my eyes, it was bare pretty much all year but still there and standing, and I thought this mono edit actually adds a bit of mystery or moodiness to it
