I recently wrote an article about my past regrets in regard to not recognizing opportunity and acting upon it. If you'd like to read it, it has been published here:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@techblogger/regrets-but-not-with-steemit-steem-and-the-future-of-blockchain

At this point it has been my most successful article posted to date. The number of thoughtful comments really amazed me and really showed me how powerful Steemit is at generating teamwork and collaboration. The community is strong and intelligent and I'm happy to be a part of it.

In the article I had a few major points in which I will mention briefly in this post here:

Thoughts on the Ipod Touch...

>I knew it was the future, I knew it would become a phone like no other phone ever seen before but I couldnt put two and two together and say, hey, I can ride the wave, I'm going to give all my money to Apple and load the boat on Apple stock!

>See, knowing the future isn't enough... If you know the river is changing course, you have to figure out where its going and put yourself in the way of it, you have to act and you have to be ready to ride the wave!

Thoughts on Bitcoin...

>Enter Bitcoin... I heard about this thing in about 2010 and even made an effort to get my hands on some. When I figured out that it was extremely difficult to buy and that it couldnt simply be stored on your computer but you actually needed some ungodly long code that gave you access to it, my mind shut down for some reason, I told myself it was too difficult and that it would never work. If I had a better understanding of history and truly understood what it was, I would have bought as much of it as I possibly could have. Another missed opportunity.

Thoughts on Steemit and how I felt when I first heard about it...

>When I learned about Steemit and Steem I was amazed. A social network, powered by blockchain which operated at 100,000TPS and offered writers and content creators the ability to get paid for simply posting their work I was shocked.

>The Steem blockchain serves as a way to transact, a cryptocurrency (Steem) and a way to permanantly store written and pictorial information on a blockchain. It has so many properties in addition to those of Bitcoin or Ethereum. It has so much raw potential. Steem is a game-changer and the largest platform Steemit which sits on top of it is absolutely fantastic considering its still in BETA.

And my final thoughts about regrets I'll have to live with in my life...

>Steem and Steemit are the future, I can see it, I am a part of it and if you are reading this, you are too. Enough said, welcome to the future, happy you've made it this far! The time is now... Don't sit on the sidelines... Act!

The Community Response

I was shocked and amazed at how many thoughtful comments I had received... It was warming to know that others had the same regrets I have and that they two refuse to repeat history. Next time many of us will do things differently. Here are a few comments that I received:

From @jrswab -

>I have been into technology for most of my life and remember Windows 3.1 but that was in elementary school. Due to my age I have never invested into any technology that I found interesting until Bitcoin. I spent three months doing nothing but learning about Bitcoin before even buying a fraction. I am no Bitcoin millionaire but am happy I learned about the technology before it goes mainstream.

>In June of this year I came across Steem and the SteemIt platform. I have been blogging for over a decade and have seen more engagement here than any other platform. Yes there is a lot of half effort content here but that is normal. As long as Steem keeps adding new users at a healthy rate and those of us who put in real effort keep building relationships, Steem will be a nice side income. That being said, blogging for the money is never a good idea.

>Great post, looking forward to more!

>J. R.

I agree with this comment strongly. Steem is something new that many don't know about or understand. Even many users still haven't grasped how fundamentally different it is from other blockchains and how much the Steemit platform is from other social networking sites.

From @windrockswater -

>Your story is inspiring. It reflects the sentiment that so many of us steemians felt when we first discovered it. It was so wow!. We have an emotional attachment to it's success. It's about freedom, community and open dialogue. You have a lot of company in your good will. Peace and safe travels.

This was a very nice and thoughtful comment. I too believe its about freedom, community and open dialogue and what's not to love about bringing back a bit of humanity, kindness and understanding?

From @fedesox -

>My story pretty much matches yours, I was too busy with useful things at college that I missed lots of opportunities back then, but blockchain is different and pretty exciting! Thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ˜

So true. This matches what I was like in college. If only I knew that buying a house at the time would have been the best thing I could have done with my money!

Final Thoughts

Rarely have I written anything as epic as this article and I wrote it in a stream of consciousness. Often time the best writing we have ever done comes out in the same way. The fact that people could relate and had something to add really made me feel great about sharing these regrets with the world. Finally I would just like to thank all the other people who read and commented on this article. I'm happy to continue working with you to make Steemit a better platform and promote Steem as the #1 blockchain in the world in terms of both transactions and functionality!

Thanks for reading.
