Yesterday, I posted [my analysis on the STEEM price action](https://busy.org/@technerd888/what-s-happening-to-steem) and put out a question on _"what's happening to STEEM?"_. Well, I hope nobody got alarmed by my post.
_Image courtesy of [Pixabay](https://www.pixabay.com)_
Or should we be? Should we panic on the way the STEEM price has declined in recent weeks? Should we be concerned that the decline doesn't seem to be abating? Could STEEM possibly be one of the altcoins that could disappear in the future? Well, after a night of thinking, I came to the conclusion that (1) there is no need to panic, and (2) I firmly believe STEEM is here to stay. On times like this, it helps to go back to the basics. And to do that, we have to go back to the fundamental side of things. Here are four reasons I've come up with: 1. **Solid Product Offering that Exists RIGHT NOW:** In contrast to some altcoins that have announced but without any product to showcase to date, STEEM already has a solid base product and a number of complimentary apps from a diverse community of developers building on top of the STEEM blockchain. The list is active and growing even as we speak. Granted there are some kinks and issues that still need to be addressed (what coin doesn't anyway?), they still represent a base foundation for us all to see, use and experience first-hand. 2. **An Altcoin for Everyone:** One of the things I really like about STEEM is how it has broken down the barrier that cryptocoins is only for technical folks. Contrarily, STEEM is for everyone! It allows everyday people to use it and even mine it with ease. You don't need to deal with long, cryptic-looking addresses; instead send and receive STEEM using easy-to-read descriptive usernames. You don't need strong technical background or large financial muscle in order to participate in "mining" for STEEM. All you need is a passion to share your thoughts, your experiences, your knowledge to the world. And who can't do this? 3. **A Thriving Community:** A few days ago, I posted about [STEEM in comparison to DOGE](https://steemit.com/steem/@technerd888/comparing-steem-and-doge). I admit I was surprised at this comparison initially, but when you think about it, it makes sense, considering how STEEM and DOGE have two of the most passionate communities in the cryptocoin scene. This backing of a strong and passionate and growing community is I believe, the backbone and strong foundation of any cryptocoin. 4. **Solid Development Roadmap:** Having a strong community is great, but what I believe will propel a coin to further growth is the need to constantly find ways and means to improve its services to the community. In STEEM, not only do I see a strong group of developers creating apps around the current STEEM blockchain, the future of STEEM itself to develop its base features is also impressive. Click on [this link if you would like to know more](https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/steemit-winter-update-2017-reflection-our-vision-statement-and-mission-and-a-look-forward). So, my overall take is that there's no reason to panic, because there is a sound fundamental picture behind STEEM. We just have to ride out these tough times.
_Image obtained from [this post](https://steemkr.com/steemit/@firepower/dummies-guide-to-keeping-your-cool-on-steemit)_
_Risk Warning: All comments, charts and analysis on this post are purely my own and should in no way be treated as recommendations or advice, nor should they be construed as an endorsement or recommendation to buy, sell or hold.
