My Quarantine Story (A Realization and Whatnots)
Hello people from all over the world, especially those from the HIVE community.
The world is facing such a huge barrier at the moment which has gravely affected people's lives... be it directly or indirectly.
This post is in response to @theycallmedan's [Quarantine Life Initiative](https://peakd.com/quarantinelife/@theycallmedan/quarantinelife-initiative).
As some of you may already know, I am an online ESL Instructor for the past five years now, so my life already revolves mostly at home. My hobbies are also relatively done indoors, so this quarantine life has been quite normal for me.
However, choosing not to go out and not being able to go out are very different.
Before the quarantine, I could basically go out whenever I want to. Well, I mostly go out for a jog... or maybe go to church and shopping malls to enjoy some shopping, food trip and various activities there. Those were just simple joys, but we aren't able to do it now.
---
My place, Cebu (Philippines), started its community quarantine on my birthday (March 16). Usually, my parents and I go to church, then eat out. For my birthday this year, we actually planned to go on a trip... but it was cancelled because of the situation. From that time, we weren't allowed to go to other islands in the Philippines. However, public transportation, shopping malls, restaurants and the like were still open that time.
Also, during that time... there wasn't a confirmed case in my island, yet. Though the number of cases in the capital was increasing day by day.
---
A couple days after the community quarantine happened, the first case of coronavirus in Cebu, particularly in Mandaue City, was confirmed. Because of that, the community quarantine became even stricter.
Shopping malls were closed. Restaurants were only for takeout and delivery. People should religiously practice social distancing. The only establishments allowed were just supermarkets, pharmacies, bank/money exchange outlets, and the like.
Curfew was to be followed from that time as well. The elderly and minors shouldn't go out from 3PM, while the others aren't allowed to go out from 10PM. *10PM is for our city, other cities are much earlier.*
Let me show you some pictures below. These pictures were sent by my papa when he went to withdraw some money and bought some groceries we could personally stock and also for our small store.
Only a number of people are allowed to go to the grocery stores at a time, so people had to wait in line for their turn to shop. Those pictures were taken last week.
A few days ago, "Enhanced Community Quarantine" has been decided and the rules became even much stricter. We aren't allowed to go out without a quarantine pass, and only one member for each household can have it. Let me show you my papa's quarantine pass.

![20200330_102151.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tegoshei/qjIWZ6Z1-20200330_102151.jpg)

In our family, only my papa is allowed to go out to buy food or medicine. Additional rule is that, there won't be any public or even private transportation allowed anymore. The local government provides us with transportation which is hourly, so it's OK. For healthcare practitioners, company workers like in supermarkets, banks or some BPO are to be provided transportation by their companies.
Luckily, we were able to stock some food and other important things before the Enhanced Community Quarantine.
We stocked on rice, especially. Actually, our local government provided all households in my place with several kilograms of rice... and since we already bought some for our family, we gave it to our neighbor who needs it more because they have more members in their family and they don't have money to stock on food.
Aside from our food, we also bought some rice and feeds for the birds who frequent our place and of course for our dog, Arashi. We also bought some dog treats in advance as well as some medicine for him, just in case.

As I have mentioned before, we also have a small store which sells retail products of basic needs and other stuff. It's operational, but because of the quarantine, we opted to close earlier than usual... and we also follow the liquor ban, so we don't sell beer and other alcoholic drinks as usual.
If the situation worsens *(total lock down)*, we would have to close the store and just use what's left there for our daily needs.
From today, Cebu City is closed. People from other cities aren't allowed to go there. I mean, we can go there, but we're not allowed to go back to our city. So, people who work in Cebu City (supermarket, bank, BPO, etc) from other cities should be provided with accommodation from now on.
Last night, the first ever case in my city was confirmed, so there might be a total lock down in my area *(hopefully not)*. If ever it happened, we won't be able to go out and would only wait for the local government to send us food and other things.
My life hasn't changed that much aside from these restrictions. I can still work like usual. I realized my life was already in quarantine even before this quarantine happened. I just hope people will learn how be disciplined and really abide with the rules, so we can prevent further spread of this virus.
I really hope for everyone's safety and recovery. We're all in this together. And hopefully, once the virus is defeated and everything goes back to normal, people would value life, their loved ones and the environment more.
Thanks for taking the time in reading this. :) I'm glad to share what's happening in my community to everyone. Keep safe!
