From The Runway To Decay Photoshoot

In Hamilton Ontario we have an annual event called supercrawl. It is a large outdoor festival of music and arts that runs for a full weekend.

I have done photos at the last 6 supercrawl events and did again this year, the event took place last weekend and I had a blast soaking it all in.

This year had an added bonus though! My friend, fellow explorer and model, Michelle was doing her first runway show on Saturday night in the fashion area of the festival and asked me to come and take pictures. Having never shot a runway show before I jumped at the chance!

As you can see in the above pictures, Michelle looked great and she did extremely well!

This shoot exposed me to several challenges that I am not used to dealing with which was also great! I have become very used to shooting in hidden away places or late at night, this was the complete opposite. Surrounded by people moving around and trying to get close to take pictures with their phones. Countless other photographers all jockeying for the best angles and models moving fairly quick in a low light setting. It was a great little learning curve!

After the shoot Michelle (and the group of us) where really excited and amped up, so we decided to do a few more photo's in an alley behind the fashion stage.

With our excitement far from being satisfied, we decided to do some urban exploration and made our way to an abandoned nurse residence/daycare.

Then to an old abandoned Victorian farm house.

We finally started to get worn out around 4am, what a great night it was! Some firsts for both Michelle and I, some fun exploring and some great photos!

I also walked away with a good reminder of how important it is to get out of your comfort zone whenever possible! The challenges make you stronger and better, no matter what you are doing. You struggle and grow, unlike when you are stuck in comfort.
