A friend and fellow underground explorer, messaged me yesterday to let me know that an underground network that we have all been trying to check out was open. Known as the cathedral CSO, located in the west side of downtown Hamilton Ont. Underneath cathedral park/dog park. The system has a large storage tank that is made up of two cells. Combined they hold a storage volume of 71,000 cubic meters. The tank has been in the center of a recent scandal in the city, it was found that an overflow tank gate was left partly open for four and a half years, releasing an estimated 24 billion litres of contaminated water into a protected nature reserve nearby (Cootes Paradise). As soon as it got dark last night, a friend and I went to the dog park and slipped down an open hatch and found ourselves in a long narrow hallway.      After a short walk it the wet and grimy hall, we reached the first set of stairs going down into the tanks.    Unfortunately going right into the tank was not an option like the last CSO we did. There was at least a foot or two of water/muck covering the whole floor. We kept going down the hall until we saw a light. Unsure why a light would be on, we cautiously approached and found the pump room.             I thought this was the end of the explore until I looked behind a staircase that went up to a door. Another walkway, that looked the same as the first one. With a another staircase going down at the end.     The stairs looked even worse than the first set I went on, but couldn't resist taking a peak.   Despite not being able to wander around in the tank, this was a really cool subterranean adventure!
