In Norse mythology, Ymir, Aurgelmir, Brimir, or Bláinn is the ancestor of all [jötnar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B6tunn). Ymir is attested in the [Poetic Edda](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetic_Edda), compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional material, in the [Prose Edda](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prose_Edda), written by [Snorri Sturluson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snorri_Sturluson) in the 13th century, and in the poetry of skalds.
