When we in the U.S.A., as a nation, spend over six hundred billion dollars annually on defense, and only thirty billion on understanding our health, one must question whether there actually is intelligent life on Earth.

What is needed is a new social alternative and a transition towards a more appropriate way of thinking about ourselves, the environment and the management of our natural resources. We are depleting our resources 50% faster than our planet can renew. The Venus Project proposes a global joint venture for intelligent and efficient resource management. Outgrowing the confines of a monetary system for universal access to resources is essential. Human and environmental concerns must become our only priorities.

The Venus Project advocates a design for world unification based upon the carrying capacity of the planet, its resources and the needs of all people. To sustain our civilization, we advocate the coordination of advanced technology and available resources with a humane systems approach. Unfortunately, only in times of war or national emergency do we assemble interdisciplinary teams to find workable solutions to social problems. But, more than ever, it is now needed for our very survival. If we mobilize the same resources for social problems as we do in our war efforts, beneficial effects on a large scale can be achieved in a relatively short time.
