**"You just have to make money"** were the thoughts that ran through my mind as I sat down enjoying the evening breeze. Particularly, it came few days after my Mom's funeral. My mom was my sponsor back then and losing her to death shook my life in its entirety.

Many thoughts ran through my mind during this period of tumults; I thought of dropping out of school because I was still studying for my first degree then. I thought of my feeding and total well-being. My survival became my greatest worry. Being that I'm not good at begging people for money or being entitled to people's money, I knew that  surviving on people's money was out of the plan. So, I said to myself, you just have to make your own money.

This statement and thought was what propelled me to begin thinking and studying about money and investments. One thing I learnt was that money had to be earned meaning, I had to work or offer some value. This led me to doing some menial jobs which I stopped because it was stressful yet earnings were very low. I thought of some easy ways to make money so, I went online and I saw some Ponzi schemes which I joined.

Along the line, I discovered that it wasn't a sustainable source of income so, I had to stop and of course, I lost some of my cash while at it. One of those days during lectures in school, I overheard one of colleagues saying, you can earn from writing and then she mentioned ~~Steemit~~ Hive. That's how I landed here on Hive to begin earning money.

#### Money is Essential
Money is a very vital part of life because every area of our lives requires money. Without money, you cannot acquire certain things in life like proper education and a good standard of living. This is the more reason I told myself that I needed to make money.

#### Money is a Defence
Here's one reason you should strive to make money. Money is a strong defence. There's a level of protection or immunity you will never get if you are poor. When you are poor in the society, you tend to be open to every form of problem and dangers. Money makes you feel protected somehow and serves as a protective wall against certain problems. Even the holy book confirms that money is a defence so, it's important to make money.

#### Money Brings Confidence
Low self-esteem can be caused by the lack of money. No one is as timid as a poor person when in a group of person. When you are poor, you cannot say some things boldly and your opinions may not be taken sometimes. But a person with money is always confident. With money, you can go anywhere and not be found wanting.

There's still many reasons we need to make and have money but money can only be earned. To earn money, work must be done or value must be provided.
