**Una introducción necesaria**

Hoy es el día mundial del medio ambiente. En una fecha similar de 1972, la Organización de Naciones Unidas instauró esta fecha, con el objetivo de que todos tomáramos conciencia sobre la necesidad de su protección y cuidado.

Sin embargo, cada vez hay una mayor preocupación por los problemas que existen en el planeta y afectan a la naturaleza, lo que es lo mismo, afecta nuestra propia vida.

En esta publicación les dejaré los 5 desafíos que, a juicio del autor, constituyen amenazas muy serias para la integridad y seguridad del medio ambiente.

**Algunos criterios en torno al medio ambiente**

Esta es una de mis temáticas preferidas a la hora de impartir temas relacionados con la vida en el planeta.

Cuando impartía estas clases a los adolescentes, les preguntaba qué era el medio ambiente y lo primero que respondían era: Todo lo que nos rodea.

Y no les faltaba razón.

De manera más acabada, el medio ambiente es el conjunto de elementos vivos y no vivos que interactúan con el hombre, incluido el entorno natural.

De lo anterior se concluye que nada le es ajeno al medio ambiente y que su cuidado es esencial para la vida, porque las aguas, el aire, los suelos, la flora y la fauna son imprescindibles para nuestra existencia.

A pesar de su importancia, muchos son los problemas que tiene el medio ambiente y debemos cuidar o estaremos cavando la tumba del planeta.

**5 desafíos que enfrenta el medio ambiente**

Varios desafíos enfrentan los hombres en su lucha por preservar el medio ambiente. Aquí les dejo 5 que, a nuestra consideración, son de los más peligrosos.

•      Fenómenos naturales, la mayoría de carácter geológicos, que impactan y afectan al ser humano causando daños cuantiosos y pérdidas de vidas humanas. Son, entre otros, terremotos, volcanes, huracanes, deslizamientos, erosión, inundaciones, sequías y otros que, combinados con la acción irresponsable del hombre, causan un daño considerable al medio ambiente.

•      Las guerras. No hay duda de que esto es lo más dañino para el medio ambiente, por todo el daño que provocan a los ecosistemas, la vida del hombre y altera no solo al medio físico geográfico, sino también al medio urbano territorial, con su carga de destrucción y muerte.

•      Agujero en la Capa de Ozono, producto de los gases de clorofluorocarburo que van a la atmósfera y la están perjudicando. Esta es la capa protectora de la vida en el planeta, impidiendo que los rayos ultravioleta nos lleguen y nos exterminen de la faz de la tierra.

•      El calentamiento global, como consecuencia de los gases de efecto invernadero que están produciendo el cambio climático y el aumento del nivel medio del mar que ya están invadiendo y van a invadir a las superficies bajas del planeta, como varias islas de Oceanía que están desapareciendo por esta causa. De igual manera, el incremento de la temperatura global está provocando el deshielo en el océano Ártico, en la Antártida y en los glaciares, lo que pone en peligro una parte importante de la población mundial.

•      Contaminación de las aguas, el aire, el suelo con sustancias de todo tipo, ya sean líquidas como el petróleo, sustancias químicas y otras hasta sólidas como elementos radioactivos y plásticos.

Este año, la campaña mundial del medio ambiente está contra la contaminación del plástico porque ha alcanzado valores alarmantes en todo el mundo.

**Some criteria on the environment**

When I taught these classes to teenagers, I would ask them what the environment was and the first thing they would answer was: Everything that surrounds us.

And they were right.

More precisely, the environment is the set of living and non-living elements that interact with man, including the natural environment.

From the above, we can conclude that nothing is alien to the environment and that its care is essential for life, because water, air, soil, flora and fauna are essential for our existence.

Despite its importance, the environment has many problems and we must take care of them or we will be digging the grave of the planet.

**5 challenges facing the environment**

There are several challenges that people face in their struggle to preserve the environment. Here are 5 that, in our opinion, are among the most dangerous.

- Natural phenomena, mostly of a geological nature, that impact and affect human beings, causing considerable damage and loss of human lives. They are, among others, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, landslides, erosion, floods, droughts and others that, combined with the irresponsible action of man, cause considerable damage to the environment.

- Wars. There is no doubt that this is the most damaging to the environment, for all the damage they cause to ecosystems, human life and alter not only the physical geographic environment, but also the urban territorial environment, with its burden of destruction and death.

- Hole in the Ozone Layer, product of chlorofluorocarbon gases that go into the atmosphere and are damaging it. This is the protective layer of life on the planet, preventing ultraviolet rays from reaching us and exterminating us from the face of the earth.

- Global warming, as a consequence of the greenhouse gases that are producing climate change and the increase in the average sea level that are already invading and will invade the low areas of the planet, such as several islands of Oceania that are disappearing because of this cause. Similarly, the increase in global temperature is causing the melting of ice in the Arctic Ocean, Antarctica and glaciers, which endangers a significant part of the world's population.

- Pollution of water, air and soil with substances of all kinds, whether liquid such as oil, chemicals or even solids such as radioactive elements and plastics.

This year, the world environmental campaign is against plastic pollution because it has reached alarming levels all over the world.
