I am not really a sports person like that, funniest thing is I don’t even think I have ever even sat down in a room  to watch a full football match without getting distracted halfway through it, but still, I cannot say that international sporting events like the World Cup or the Olympics are a waste of resources, I mean, yeah, they do spend a lot of money in way, but I believe there is a reason why these events still hold every year despite how expensive they are.

Me i feel like these events do actually bring people together in a way that nothing else can, you will see people from different countries cheering, shouting, and even crying over the same thing , all because of sports,  you know that kind of unity is rare in these days, we know the world is already filled with so many problems like this, so if one event can make people forget their differences for a while, then I think it is actually worth something.

I have seen how people go crazy when their country wins a match, and the joy is just really contagious, even me that doesn’t watch football like that, I still feel the vibe when everywhere is just  buzzing with celebration ,there is just something beautiful about seeing people being happy and proud of where they come from.

Another thing I think people don’t see is how these events now help the countries that host them, Yeah, it costs a lot, but imagine how much money they make from it too, Hotels are always filled, local businesses make sales, food vendors, transport people , everybody gets small money from the rush that comes with it, so I think it kind of boosts their economy in a way.

I do understand when people say that the money could be used for better things like education, healthcare, or fixing roads, I mean, they are not wrong o, But at the same time, it is not like the money would automatically go into those things if the event didn’t hold,you see our Governments spend on so many things already , at least sports brings people joy and gives athletes a platform to show their talent.

Also, think about the players, you know some of them have trained their whole lives just to play at that level, for them, the Olympics or the World Cup isn’t just a game, it is their dream,  and I think that ,the kind of passion deserves to be supported, some of these people come from poor backgrounds and use sports to change their lives completely, If there were no big competitions, many of them would not even have the chance to be known.

So to me, I don’t think these events are a waste, they might cost a lot, yes, but they also give back in their own way, It is like spending money on something that brings people together, gives them hope, and creates memories that last a lifetime.

If you ask me, I will say as long as they are not using the money meant for people’s basic needs to fund it, then it is fine ,the world is already stressful enough , at least sports brings people a little peace and excitement, even if it is just for a short while.

So yeah, I might not be a sports fan, but I get the reason why people take these things seriously, so In the end, it is not just about the game, it is just about the unity, the joy, and also the hope it gives to millions of people all around the world.
