0.000 HBD15 Days Delegating SP To @MinnowBooster - My Case Study Results
15 days ago (geez, time flies!) I decided to experiment with one of @minnowbooster's features: Earning SBD by Delegating SP to it. https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmdrR3vRdq1i2DQgJgTfVHWmHDsVA8UbZvREcHe8CvvQYU/image.png (Image Source: @minnowbooster) This was my first time delegating SP to anyone, and I was a little nervous doing so, but it was very easy to do. I did it directly through the @minnowbooster website at: https://minnowbooster.herokuapp.com/delegate I just filled in the form there, which redirects you to steemconnect to enter your active key with the details that you entered, and the delegation amount will be transmitted to the STEEM blockchain. I found out a couple things during this experiment: First, there is a one-week delegation cooldown time, which means when you undelegate to someone, that STEEM will not be restored to your account until the one-week cooldown was over. I was not aware of that, but it makes sense and isn't a huge deal as long as you're planning for it. When you delegate to someone, there is NO cooldown time. The SP is immediately delegated to them. It's only when you cooldown that you need to wait a week to get it back. Second, it appeared that the exact amount of STEEM that is delegated to someone else is approximate as it's based on mvests (which honestly, I only partially understand.) I entered 100 STEEM when I was going through the process to delegate to @minnowbooster and ended up delegating 101.782 SP according to my blockchain feed at http://steemd.com/@trending. I'm not sure what caused this slight difference, as I delegated to @msp-creativebot through the MinnowSupportProject (MSP) website and did not run into this problem, and it's not a big deal, but I thought it was worth noting. Third, you cannot power down (easily) through the Steemit.com interface when you have any amount in delegation. I read somewhere that it's possible to power down part of your earnings at a time, but I don't know how at this point. Not a big deal unless you want the weekly payouts for some reason.
15 Days Results
With 15 days of results delegating to @minnowbooster, I received 14 separate daily payouts beginning 24 hours after I first delegated. I was really pleased with the results overall. > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.070 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.070 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.077 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.076 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.091 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.080 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.077 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.082 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.066 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.061 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.062 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.061 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.059 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.065 SBD > Your MinnowBooster payout is 0.062 SBD
Total Payouts = $1.059 SBD Daily Average = $0.0706 SBD Per Day
With STEEM currently sitting at about $1.10 each, that means I "lended" about $111.96 worth of capital to @minnowbooster over 15 days, which means that my annual expected payout at the current daily average of $0.0706 SBD is about $25.769 SBD per year. For reference, my $111.96 worth of STEEM (again, 101.782 SP at the time of lending) is worth a single full-power upvote of $0.02 at 100% voting pool strength. That's a crazy payout of about 23% annually, which does not even take into account the amount of increased STEEM Power that you get at the end of that period (since it continues to grow even while delegated to another person.) I've decided to undelegate for now, mostly because I'm using Steemit pretty actively and want to experiment with a few other bots/communities/platforms, but @minnowbooster certainly gets my endorsement. I will almost certainly use it again in the future.
Undelegating
This was my first time trying to undelegate to another user. Something else I noticed is that when I went to go undelegate, when I typed in 0 SP delegation on @minnowbooster's website, it redirected me to the SteemConnect page with a number of 210000 mvests for some reason. I'm attributing this to a browser cache error, but I thought it was odd. To undelegate, you need to change the amount to 0 mvests. When I changed the 210000 mvests to 0 directly in the steemconnect URL (rather than through @minnowbooster's website) it worked fine: https://v2.steemconnect.com/sign/delegateVestingShares?delegator=USERNAME&delegatee=minnowbooster&vesting_shares=0.000000%20VESTS Once you go to transmit the action, it asks for your active key, and immediately the delegation to @minnowbooster ceased.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down?
Delegating SP to @minnowbooster definitely gets a big thumbs up from me. You can try it and change your mind at anytime you want (with a one-week cooldown to get your SP back, and you forfeit the rest of the day's earnings on the day you undelegate, so you should time the undelegation shortly after you receive your daily payout.) I would heartily recommend that anyone who is a "passive" STEEM user to delegate their SP to @minnowbooster. Not only does your SP continue to appreciate, the daily payouts you get are all in SBD (rather than being split 50/50 between SP and SBD) and are immediately liquid. No 13 week cooldown time. I hope this helped you out if you were considering delegating SP to @minnowbooster. I am not affiliated with the project in any way, I'm just a fan.
