# How decentralized & distributed steemit.com is?
There are other projects out there that will use the almost the same concepts like steemit to have a social media platform based on a blockchain. 

A good example of this is the AKASHA project http://akasha.world/. This platform will all be based on the ethereum blockchain and the IPFS ( Inter Planetary File System - https://ipfs.io) protocol - this means that there won't be any central servers that will be a honey pot for potential attacks. It'll be harder to attack.  In turn,  making it a TRULY decentralized alternative to the legacy platforms of today.

Would STEEMIT.COM adapt over time to the new technologies  like AKASHA or  not?
