Castlevania II Simons Quest Port to Sega Master System In Progress
Retro gaming fans are awesome. Here we have Castlevania II by Konami, getting ported to the Sega Master System. This is a work in progress and there are no enemies, no townsfolk and not even all the levels implemented yet. This is still an impressive work in progress for fans of Simons Quest.

Fans Doing What Companies Would Not

I get it, when Simons Quest was released in 1987, Nintendo had a stranglehold on gaming. No one was willing to go against Nintendo at least in North America. This left competitors such as Sega and Atari fighting over scraps.

It may be several decades later, but we are finally getting to see what Castlevania II may have looked like on the Sega Master System. Being a huge Simons Quest fan, I am here for it.

So far, it is quite well done.

Work in Progress, So Much Progress to Go

Right now, there is a ton of work left to do but what is here looks quite good. There are no townsfolk, no castles to enter, no enemies, etc. You can pretty much just walk around and check out the scenery.

If you ever wanted to play Simons Quest as a walking simulator then you are in luck. That is exactly what it is right now. I don’t mean that in a negative manner either. It is cool to be able to just walk around and explore without danger of getting attacked.

What Could Have Been

The sad thing about the success of Nintendo is just how many great games we never saw got ported. Sure, they revived gaming in North America but at what cost? Looking back, it is 20/20 but so much creativity was limited by those restrictive third-party contracts.

Imagine if companies like Capcom could have released their games on more than one platform. It might have been madness, might have been spreading resources too thin. It could have been absolutely mind-blowingly awesome too.
