Electronic Arts is one of the easiest companies to hate, unless you were an Angry Birds fan then it might have been easier to hate Rovio. They have recently taken steps to redeem their reputation with gamers with a MAJOR update to the Command & Conquer franchise. They released the source code to several Command & Conquer releases including the original, Red Alert, and over 10 more. Modders, start your programs.
Very Un-EA Move by Electronic Arts
I say Electronic Arts here because this move, releasing the source code, opening the games to more mod support via Steam, etc are very much Electronic Arts style moves. If you are a gamer from the 80s then you remember how awesome Electronic Arts was, picking up titles that would probably never been publisher otherwise being just one awesome thing they did. Releasing the source code to an iconic franchise such as Command & Conquer is such an amazing gift to gamers. One that we need to celebrate and appreciate. Companies do not do this often. This is not the first time EA has done something good for gamers. Years ago, they made the original Command & Conquer game, and Red Alert, I believe, was available for free for a period. Then in 2020 they released the remastered Command & Conquer set then they made these games available on Steam via the Ultimate Collection.
Gamers, Modders, Time to Enjoy Gaming is Back
If you are a gamer that has been limited on funds and could not afford to get the Command & Conquer games, here is your chance to enjoy them. The source code has been made available for Tiberian Dawn (the original game), Red Alert, Renegade, Generals, and Zero Hour [according to PC GamesN]( https://www.pcgamesn.com/command-and-conquer/mods-source-code-released). This means we could potentially see many new things coming to the Command & Conquer universe, like how Doom has been improved and made better by modders. What do you want to see come to Command & Conquer? Is it a mod? Would you want to see Transformers or G.I. Joe mods? What about Warhammer? A Nintendo vs Sega RTS? Let me know in the comments below.
