Hi guys, in [my last blog](https://steemit.com/decenternet/@ulqu3/decenternet-the-internet-you-want-vs-the-internet-you-have) I introduced Decenternet and mentioned a couple of its plethora of features. In today's series, we will discuss why Decenternet is important and what it stands for. For those who missed it, Decenternet(or **Dnet** *for short*) is a hyper-speed peer-to-peer, distributed internet solution platform. It's primary aim is to restore Net Neutrality to the internet, and as Sean Kim, the founder and CEO of Decenternet has aptly explained; >“Dnet architecture provides a software-defined solution that adds more default transparency, ownership of data to its users, elimination of profit extortion by intermediaries, the proliferation of suppressed knowledge by inducing a default open source environment for its components such as search engines and OS”. [whitepaper](https://decenternet.com/white-paper/) So what is Net Neutrality you ask? >**Net neutrality** is the principle that Internet service providers treat all data on the Internet equally, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. [wiki](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality) Fundamentally, net neutrality is about equal access to the Internet.

[Net Neutrality is under Threat](http://www.cm-life.com/article/2017/11/net-neutrality-editorial)
The issue of net neutrality stems from the underhanded tactics of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) aimed at maximising profit by shorthanding customers and making us pay extra for services we should already be entitled to. In 2014, **Madison River Communications** company was fined US$15,000 by the FCC, for restricting their customers' access to the website of a rival company Vonage. [Source](http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-3260.html?refid=easy_hf) In 2017, **AT&T** was also caught limiting access to **FaceTime**, so only those users who paid for AT&T's new shared data plans could access the application. [Source](https://www.wired.com/2012/11/facetime-restrictions-lifted/) These are just some examples to clearly depict the manipulative nature of these big corporations who control access to the internet. This is contrary to the very core value of Open Internet that the original creators had in mind. In July 2017, more than 20 internet founders and industry leaders signed a 43-page long open letter to the Federal Communications Commission(FCC) warning that killing net neutrality poses "imminent threat" to the web. [Source](https://www.google.com.ng/amp/s/www.commondreams.org/news/2017/12/11/save-internet-they-helped-create-web-pioneers-demand-fcc-cancel-net-neutrality-vote%3famp) Despite many protests and valid concerns raised, the big corporations seem to be colluding with the government or regulatory bodies for profit ignoring the impact on the every day user. The internet which was supposed to be a free online repository for all knowledge and entertainment has now become a funneled access-controlled money pipeline for the wrong people. Net neutrality is not the only thing these ISPs are trying to destroy. They also show a lack of transparency and are also culpable in internet censorship. This is where [Decenternet](https://decenternet.com/) comes in. The goal of [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/), is to provide unregulated, uninhibited and premium access to internet for ALL users. [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) aims to accomplish this by using a Peer-to-peer network which systematically removes the need for a centralised body (eg ISP) and since there are multiple users(nodes), there is no bottleneck or point of failure. Basically, each user node acts as its own contained intranet, and can connect *directly*, *dynamically* and *non-hierarchically* to as many other nodes as possible and cooperate with one another to efficiently route data from one device to another.

[Dnet connecting the world at hyper-speed](https://decenternet.com)
This concept of decentralization is derived from Satoshi Nakamoto's blockchain. The blockchain allows us to decentralize pretty much anything and gives value back to the users. # How Does Decenternet Ensure Net Neutrality? While conventional ISPs give users a single access point which they(ISP) have control over, [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) gives users free reign over their connections. In [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/), users connect and interact with multiple nodes creating multiple access points. There is no selective data streaming, no censorship, no restriction, no monitoring, no throttling, and no high charges. [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) will achieve all these goals by granting users access to its network and allowing them use its open-source tools. The [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) Ecosystem is very robust.

[Dnet mind map](https://decenternet.com/)
Among these tools is the Dnet custom Operating System [Anuvys](https://anuvys.com/).

[Anuvys: Solution for Decentralized web experience](https://anuvys.com/)
Now [Anuvys](https://anuvys.com/) isn't just the regular type and click OS you see everyday. No, this is a whole new level of intricately designed architecture that will replace the poorly scaling legacy systems of today with a transparent and dynamic tool that incentivizes users just for using the **Osiris D-Browser** and contributing vital and true data to the **Liberty Search Engine** index. # How Does Decenternet Give Value To Users? User activity on the [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) platform with be incentivized financially. Imagine getting paid to browse your favourite blog, or earning tokens for uploading your holiday pics on social media. [Dnet](https://decenternet.com/) is powered by the SPYCE token and all economic activity is free from the influence of central regulation authorities.

[Dnet SPYCE: For the Self Sustaining Network](decenternet.com)
# What To Expect From Decenternet - Faster Connection Speeds - Political and Regulation free web - Decentralized Data Cloud Storage - User activity rewarded using SPYCE tokens - Trade, commerce and other economic activity using the network tools such as browser and search engine. - Unhackable network free from spyware - Access and Tools for unlimited marketability for Content Creators. # ARPANET Endorsement The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was an early packet switching network and the first network to implement the protocol suite TCP/IP. These technologies would go on to become the technical foundation of the Internet. In 1971, **Ray Tomlinson** sent the first network e-mail (RFC 524, RFC 561). By 1973, e-mail constituted 75 percent of ARPANET traffic. [Source](https://web.archive.org/web/20060506003539/http://openmap.bbn.com/~tomlinso/ray/firstemailframe.html)

Although the program was later decommissioned in 1990, many of these veterans have since continued with their work and integrated it into other projects. The ARPANET Foundation recently sent a [Letter of support to Decenternet](https://anuvys.com/arpanet-officially-announces-support-for-decenternet/) in recognition of their project that aligns with the very ethical ideals on which the internet was founded. ___________________________________ In my next blog we will discuss the Decenternet ecosystem and how SPYCE will change the way users interact and trade on the internet.
