# 69 Days to Bitcoin Halving

The countdown to the next Bitcoin halving started with live Bitcoin halving clocks being unveiled. At the time of this submitting this news, there are about 69 days, 03 hours, 19 minutes, and 50 seconds to the halving which is predicted to happen on the 17th of April 2024, at 17:29 UTC, according to [Nicehash](https://www.nicehash.com/countdown/btc-halving-2024-05-10-12-00). The prediction date and time of the halving will be more accurate as we get closer to the halving. 

The next halving of Bitcoin is estimated to happen on block height 840,000. This is about 10,478 blocks from the present Block Height. $BTC is presently priced at $45,088.88 USD and gains a market capitalization of $884.73 m

On the predicted date of the halving in April 2024, the block reward for Bitcoin mining will be reduced from 6.25 Bitcoin per block to 3.125 Bitcoin per block. At the start, Bitcoin's block reward was 50 BTC. By the beginning of 2020, 12.5 new Bitcoins were added to the network every 10 minutes via virtual "mining." Presently, the block reward is reduced to 6.25 BTC. This halving will lower the rate at which Bitcoins are generated. This means that it would be more difficult to produce Bitcoin, thus, the world's largest cryptocurrency would become more scarce in supply, even as its demand increases.

The halving process will continue until all 21 million coins have been mined. This is estimated to happen around the year 2140.

Bitcoin derivatives like Bitcoin Cash, $BCH and BitcoinSV, $BSV would also experience halving on their blockchains on 5th Apriland 17th July, 2024, respectively.

Bitcoin Block-halving events happen every 4 years or after every 210,000 blocks on the Bitcoin blockchain. The halving is periodical and is coded into the Bitcoin protocol by Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, as a way to limit the total supply of Bitcoin, increasing its scarcity. 


# What is the Bitcoin Halving?
Simply put, Bitcoin halving is the reduction of the amount of new Bitcoins created by half every 4 years. This means that when Bitcoin halves, the reward given to the contributors securing the network is reduced by 50%, directly impacting the rate at which new Bitcoins are introduced into circulation. The day the having is estimated to happen is known as Halving Day!
