**VITAMIN B12** (cobalamin or cyanocobalamin) is a high molecular weight cobalt-containing compound (C63H88N14PCo), the main stimulant and regulator of blood formation in the body.
Participates in cell division. From the level of saturation with vitamin B12 depends those tissues that are divided most intensively: blood cells, skin lining (epithelial) tissues of the intestine. It is extremely important for the formation of the myelin sheath of nerves. It is 1000 times more active than folic acid, but works with it together. It helps to eliminate not only the manifestation of anemia, but also all pathologies caused by the violation of metabolic processes: lesions of the nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, etc. Loss of ability to assimilate (violation of absorption processes) and is the cause of the disease in most cases. To normalize the assimilation, it is necessary to first eliminate the dysbacteriosis and restore the normal intestinal microflora.
HELPFUL INFORMATION. Increasing the intake of vitamin C adequately reduces the absorption of vitamin B12 from food, so it is desirable to monitor the level of cobalamin from time to time and, if necessary, replenish. The power of vitamin B12 is so great that its daily dose, even for pregnant and nursing mothers, does not exceed 4 mcg, and the baby dose is 1 mcg. At high temperatures, it collapses insignificantly, and is stable to light. It is found only in food of animal origin, therefore vegetarians have a deficit almost guaranteed. There is another form of vitamin - hydrooxocobalamin. In fact, vitamin B12 itself is the result of the combination of cyanogen and hydrooxocobalamin, so in practice both types are used, mutually replacing each other, if one of them is followed by an allergic reaction (more often - cyanocobalamin). Lack of vitamin B12 is manifested by anemia, gastrointestinal disorders (more often - in the form of constipation), fatigue, inflammation and redness of the tongue, impaired cardiac and nervous activity. Serious deficits lead to the destruction of the nervous system and spinal cord.
Overdosage is caused only by acne vulgaris on the skin, since in general B12 is nontoxic, although it can be deposited in the liver, kidneys, lungs and spleen, which is unusual for water-soluble vitamins. Probably, the ability to create stocks is caused by the importance of the vitamin for life.[ Dairy products](https://steemit.com/food/@v0inter/milk-and-dairy-products) contain vitamins B12.
